Hi All. For those that have 1st hand knowledge of installing an ARB Air Locker on a 3rd gen with a rear diff. E-locker (TRD OR/ TRD PRO).

I recently did extensive trouble shooting and circuit testing on the 4WD ECU and Diff. Locker circuit in particular. This lead to me think about how people convert these trucks with an electronic diff. locker to an air locker. Do you have to to modify the harness and/ or ECU? Surely the e-locker must be removed the air locker is installed? maybe not? If that's true, how to do you resolve the fault code(s) that get thrown? I understand the air locker is probably totally separate and not integrated into the 4WD ECU.

I suggest searching for the some of the people on the forum who have posted they have done an elocker to airlocker switch. Tag them in... its just much smaller audience in this thread...

That said, they would either be putting a ~5-10 ohm resistor across the ECU in place of the rear locker, or living with a very unhappy ECU.

(just disconnect the wires going to the elocker and connect ECU pin 1 to pin 5 with resistor to make the ECU happy). It would be recommended to also remove or disconnect the overhead locker cabin switch, and the locker position feedback switch on the diff at that same time.

I have not installed an air locker, but i would say its alot easier (and cheaper) to make the rear factory 3rd gen elocker manually controlled than install the airlocker.

thanks, placing the resister in line makes sense. I'm familiar with the anytime diff lock mod, that's not why I am considering an air locker. Many other benefits. Though I'll probably save it for a crawler that I'll build in the future with both F and R solid axles. This thread is now more of a curiosity that could have been a necessity depending on what was wrong with my e-locker (I have a separate thread on that). I have since fixed it.
