What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

One thought is that when installing new cam bolts or doing an alignment, the bolts need to be tightened to spec at ride height and under weight. If the bolts are tightened to spec while the truck is jacked up and the suspension is fully drooped, you can have clunking afterwards. This may be more of a problem with alignment shops than over torquing. Another thought is when you tighten these bolts to spec, the “ears” that the cam bolts bolt into bend inwards when tightened. So maybe over torquing isn’t about the bolt banging around but rather the lower control arm mounting ears being bent in a little too far and something rubbing that shouldn’t if torqued correctly.

 

Dropping in to say hello to the 2nd gen part of TW. I recently upgraded from a 97 to a 2013 DCSB. I've been doing a lot of reading on here learning about the new truck. So I haven't done anything specifically to the truck, but dropping by to say hello. Doesn't seem like there's a lot of crossover on the boards for different gen trucks.

They can make noise when overtightened for a variety of reasons, and it’s not the bolts making the noise, it’s the bushings...

Plenty of people have described the same exact “popping” in both context of over and undertorqued LCAs.

 

Cleaned lubed and isolated my blower fan to avoid shelling out $150+ for a new one that started chittering when cold, 2nd more thorough time doing this, next time I'll replace it.

T-9, super lube oil, and super lube grease, filled the bottom bearing cup with grease after allowing tbe oils to penetrate the bearing with the motor upside down for an hour, you can see it squeezed out nicely. All quiet and with the box filter and fan cleaned out it blows a lot better too, mission successful!

Cleaned out the fan and the blend box while I was there; was carrying about a pound and a half of the Great Floridian Sand Bar with me between the filter the foam seals and the nooks and crannies in there.

Wonder how that happened.

That last point is the point. Midwest winter driving means snow, and the headlights will often create nothing but a wall of white 18" in front of your grill. Also, Midwest creek hollers hold their fog well...in both of those situations the headlights hurt more than help. Between these awesome lights, their color and location, and the 'anytime' mod that allows me to cut out the headlight completely, I feel I just made the truck a much safer vehicle for very little scratch....and the fact that they look great is a bonus.

 

Just replaced my passenger side wheels bearing! The job went easy and only took about an hour! Next up for the weekend is front diff service and transfer case!

 

I mean, I got the awning and RTT wired up with Christmas lights, does that not count?

How does the factory roof rack bolt to the roof? I don't see any holes. Thank you.

 

That looks like an access cab. From my understanding, access cabs dont have the mounting hole like the DC

Really been thinking I may have overdone it going with the Pros. Once mounted, the amount of light and increased visibility was astounding, such that I can't believe I'm not pissing people off, but I got out last night and had zero feedback from oncoming drivers. Happy about that!

Got to work before sunrise today so I was able to get some idea of my 'throw'. I'm pretty happy with them.

This is at about approx 20 feet without, then with, the low beams.

 

Yep, can confirm... access cabs you have to drill your own holes to install a roof rack.

 

Even for double cabs, if the truck didn’t come with a OEM rack, then the holes are hidden under color-match painted foam tape that would need to be removed to access said holes.

 

2 years ago I got a really odd clunk and I couldn't find it. Brought it to a shop and they found a loose body mount bolt. I wouldn't have checked that. the clunk can come from anywhere.

 

I haven’t had anything done to it since I bought it June/July this year. I remember hearing it randomly but it only seems to happen when I go over big bumps and obviously when off roading, it becomes a little annoying. I’ll have to see what I can do myself. May end up taking it to someone who knows more about this stuff than I currently do.

 

Gonna have to hit up one of the LA based guys on here to help my out with this one it seems.

I also like that I can cut off my headlights and just run my RIGID SAE legal fog pods, (thanks Crashburn) my switchbacks come on too and they are also amber give a little more light without the fog or snow reflection.

Question though, I visit snow but I don't live there, so from your white winter experience I would like to know, would lowering air pressure from say 33 to 25 give more traction and stopping power in powder and ice on the road without being unsafe?
