LOL those gotta be the hottest store made tomatoes ever ! I like hot, it’s good BUT wasent expecting this!

 

@DLRIII I had a customer come in with an antique glass pitcher. It had a crack the down the entire left side, across the bottom and part way up the right side. He asked if I had some sort of epoxy/glue to hold it together and make the crack less noticeable. Is there anything that can do that, or should he take it to a glass maker for repair?

Thats gonna be a tough one. Thats a type of glass we don't work with so I can't say so with certainty, but im almost certain that that would be very difficult for someone who works borosilicate glass to repair. It virtually has to be a cast or molded part (likely has 1 or 2 seams like beer bottles, pressed together in a mold) which means that if someone was able to repair it it would likely be very distorted. I honestly think an epoxy or glue would be the best bet, but because the crack hasn't finished out and its still in one piece, its going to be very hard to get glue on both surfaces.

Sorry I can't be more help, there's a lot to glassworking that I dont know and this falls into that category.

The glass repair would be way out of my realm of repairing things. Makes me think of windshield repair kits though...and some way to apply a vacuum to draw the juice in...lol

To me ketchup is hot enough .

I guess if one has a poor sense of taste you tend to add all sorts of strange things.

 

There used to be a sign on our building but my boss took it down so people would stop bringing in their broken vases lol.

 

If you put the whole part in a vacuum chamber, maybe not because it would have equal forces being exerted on the inside and outside. If you put a vacuum on one side of it, or even strong suction like windshield repair guys, I would bet it would break. Cant tell from the photos exactly how badly its cracked but glass really loses its strength once it cracks. Thats something i find fascinating about metal working, the pictures where @six5crèéd "erases" slots cut in metal or even just fills unwanted holes are so cool because you can really get it back to square one. With the glass we work with, if you put a dent in it while it's hot and spinning in the lathe you may never be able to make it like new again. Itll function fine but perceptive eyes will be able to find the flaw.

 

What I suggest is chucking up a large piece of bar stock in the lathe and turn and face it so that the diameter will fit inside where it mounts to the wheel hub. Next drill and tap some holes to attach that rotor to it. Then put it back in the four jaw and dial it back in. You could make a skim cut on the face as well to make it run true. Make the bar stock long enough you can turn both sides in one set up. Aluminum would work great. Yeah..you cheap skate

The tools I was working on the other day I started with this larger lathe to rough bore the inside and on portion of the OD. The chuck diameter is 48" and about 10" thru bore.

 

That’s cool, our biggest lathe is a tad over 4” through bore. What’s the bed length?

 

I'm not sure what the length is....I've never had it extended all the way out lol. It's telescoping I believe it's called.
