Welcome to the Ironman Tribute Edition Build

The Marty McFly third gen taco is pretty cool; but I wanted to go a slightly different route with my daily driver.

Many of you will be familiar with Ivan “Ironman” Stewart, and some of you may not be (sorry Marvel fans). If you would like to read up, check out the Ivan Stewart Wiki

Sure reading about it isn’t quite the right medium for action packed racing, so here are some pretty cool video’s:

Toyota Off-Road Racing - 1987 Triumph of Champions (3 min) Racing footage

Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Best of the Best Video (6 min) clips & commercials

Ivan "Ironman" Stewarts' PPI Toyota Trophy Truck 015 (32 min) documentary featuring TRD engineers.

Rip it up Off-Road: Driving Tips from Legendary Racer Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart (17 min) from the famous TFL truck

Ivan "Ironman" Stewart's Super Off Road Longplay [Arcade] (1hr37mn) just for fun; some arcade action!

At heart I have been a big fan of Toyota 4x4’s of all types.
Here is my first Toyota 4x4 (nearly 20 years ago)

    44A1D08D-6592-41DA-82FD-A6B9F900A6DE.jpg 842BB7DC-D708-4495-80B7-4447C39601AF.jpg
It was a great truck to have in high school. FYI it’s a bad idea to have an unsecured subwoofer in the back while hauling ass over rocks. You may need a new rear window (bonus they fixed the mechanism to lower it)

When I finally got the chance to drive a Toyota again in January 2018 I went straight to Toyota. I did not even know the third gen Tacoma was out. Initially I was looking for a 4Runner, but new Tacoma was technologically superior and I liked the brake play/tension on the Tacoma a lot more, in reality the option was a used 4Runner or brand new taco.

It was settled; a brand new 2017 Tacoma TRD OR in 040 Super White AT 4x4 purchased at the end of January 2018. No TSS, no BSM, no nanny BS. I was in love right away!

Getting back to Ivan Stewart I always wanted to build a truck that honored his legendary Toyota truck.

Since February 2018 I have been modding non-stop. I try to get all my parts during sales, phase outs, coupons codes, second hand, used, etc.

Here is the current state of the Ironman Edition tribute third gen:

Love it or hate it, I’ve seen some heads turn. Not bad for a Mall Certified urban off-roader truck. Believe me; I cannot wait to get it back in the dirt and woods/mountains/dunes, oh yeah!

So how did we get here in the time I’ve had this truck. Cue up “Eye of the Tiger”, lets roll the montáge:

Nice truck. But Ivan doesn’t have a shell on his truck or street tires. Or a roof rack. Or a double cab And ha I’m the Ivan Tribute truck guy around here Lol . And yes I get free stuff. My truck is usually on display at the shows for a few months out of the year. You have to give to get.. where is your BFG logo on front fenders? Are you going to finish the front windshield? Just giving you my 2c liked you asked for. I guess are trucks are brothers or sisters of some sort. Stay cool man keep the rubber side down

I think its more a tribute and not so much a look alike but he did forget to wrap the gas door and the rear door handles. Something else just doesn't look right and I think some of it has to do with the white canopy. I'm also a huge Iron Man fan so good on you for the tribute OP

Finished up the interior de-chrome project.
Added 2 sea blue fuse panels, the Rockville 8” Sub, 3 power inverters, 5 USB ports (including 2 in the Bed), the @Tacowiede ECT relocate to shift knob, @Accessorides rear window switch relocate harness, Frost Fighter rear window defrost kit for the ARE shell back window, tons of @MESO upgrades (Tail light stage 1, dual color ultímate dome light, push start button, black mirror turn signal, etc), Beatsonic AV Entune cable for HDMI input, bed light kit (16-19 style), LED interior bulbs, additional LED lighting, Hikari Eye of Megatron low beams, raptor lights to OEM style button (I like to control them manually), heated seat pads, AC drain mod, and a bunch of other things I can’t even remember.

It was a great deal of fun learning from the massive treasure trove that is Tacoma World, and applying it to my truck.
Many thanks and much appreciation for the amazing and knowledgeable members of the forum and the terrific vendors with their cool parts and responsive customer service.

At this point I accomplished almost everything that I set out to do, but this truck still has endless mod options so who knows. As my daily driver this truck is setup exactly how I want it and enjoy every minute behind the wheel.

I ended up in a 2017 Unlimited a little less than a year ago. I've finally started making some changes to make it my own. Ran across your switch panel picture in another thread and had to track this thread down looking for details. I've got a couple questions!!

    1. My Limited came with heated seats. It looks like you may have added yours based on the switches. Did you add the heated steering wheel? If so what did you use for this?

    2. I see the HDMI input and that you have some video game graphics up. Did you do some hardware / software changes to allow that function on the factory head unit?

    3. Did yours come with front and rear cameras, or was that an aftermarket add on? Is the switch for this shown in the pictures an OEM switch?

    4. Where my truck has the "cigarette lighter" plug, yours seems to have another USB port with a cover? In one picture it looks like it is lit up with some sort of display on it. What is the story behind that whole setup there?

    5. I see a power switch near the passenger shin area. What do you have that controlling?

    6. Is the sub level dual just controlling the output to the sub you added? Did you do this to be able to independently control the sub from the bass on the rest of the speakers? My dog really pretty much owns my backseat and I don't like the idea of him getting hit with the bass I enjoy when traveling alone.

    7. Considering it looks like you've had every interior panel out, do you have any experience with the wiring that goes to the overhead console? Honestly, I'd love to have my power rear window switch next to my sunroof controls rather than in the center, so just being curious.

    8. Are you happy with the ECT relocation? I'd love to get this out of the center panel, but I'm not loving the button that comes with that kit. Considering in the close to a year I've been stalking my mods and I've never seen @MESO have any of his in stock, this is the only other option I've seen.

Thanks for the info!!!!! I appreciate the amount of work it is to just take the panels apart, let alone do any of the mods. Keep making it yours!!

    Hello
Thanks for checking it out. It was definitely a good bit of work. Came into it with zero knowledge or experience and did it all with nothing but the info already posted on TW. The search bar is your best friend!

As for the 12v port, this should get ya started:

good luck and have fun on your mod journey.
