From everything that I read and saw. What most likely happened is someone just wanted the antlers. Very not kool

That’s what I was thinking. Pathetic. The taxidermist should decline the mount.

“oh I found this while hiking the body was infested already”

True but it's pretty easy to do that European Mount at home or use the antlers as a tool to call in more deer.

Hmm...I've never shot one, and yes, I've seen plenty.
That despite my suspicions that a coyote took one of our cats a few years ago.
Here you can shoot them on sight, and I know guys who do just that.
There's a reason that PA puts no restrictions on shooting them. :notsure:

BTW, eastern coyotes are bigger and much less vocal.
For a time in my youth, I lived in Laramie, WY.

I stopped deer hunting some years ago.
That was the subject of one episode of Story Time With Gritto. :)
Dragging that last buck out of the woods darn near killed me.

    Anyway, I've seen it all:
Carcasses left laying there with just the head taken...
Does that were shot mistakenly (how the fuck do you do that?) during buck season, and likewise left there.
Bad shots taken (unethically), resulting in a gut shot deer that was not recovered and died slowly.

    Story Time With Gritto. :)

I shoot groundhogs legally (Hell, there is no closed season, so it's hard to shoot 'em illegally).
That is one critter I leave lay.
They have fleas and I'm staying clear.
Some of you may be aware that Yersinia Pestis (Plague) is endemic in large populations of ground dwelling rodents like marmots, prairie dogs, etc.
It requires a large enough population (such as in Prairie Dog towns) to maintain the chain of transmission.
Much more of a concern out West, but nevertheless...

I once shot a groundhog that I'm fairly sure was rabid.
It was wandering around drunkenly in the midday sun on a hot July day.
Healthy groundhogs simply don't do that.
    They overheat easily.
To illustrate the point, I once caught one in a live trap in my garden.
Between the early morning when I baited the trap and when I checked at noon, one got in there.
It was dead by the time I checked.

    Where was I?
Oh yeah, I've also shot squirrels illegally.
Some years the little fuckers have left hardly any apples for me and Mrs Gritto.
