Motor Oil choices

    Start up, idle for a few minutes, let the oil filter fill up. That gets you pretty close to the extra .5 you need. I used to put in 5 quarts and then keep adding slowly after filling the filter, but I’ve found that it always takes the 5.5 on the dot so I just add it all from the get go now.

    1000% right. The last Tacoma engine to have a timing belt was on the 3.4L V6. All second gens and 3rd gens using timing chains.
