I'm looking at a 2008 Tacoma, but it's being sold by a roofing company. Giant advertising graphics all over it. They're decals, and I'm wondering if I could truly remove them without any damage at all to the paint. I've heard that the 2008's have some paint and clear coat issues.

    What do you think?

Hair dryer and some adhesive remover should/would be all that's needed.

You will have permanent of a different color because the covered part is not sunfaded. Mine was on for four years and in some lights you can still read orkin and thier number.

No one here can answer any more than a guess.

The paint condition prior to application, how applied, how long they've been on, the weather / sun where it's lived etc all factor in.

I'd either be prepared for an ugly truck at an ugly truck price, or ask them to have the decals professionally removed as a condition of sale. Understand that the paint may look better under the decals than surrounding them, and there is likely little to be done about that. Even pro paint correction will likely not be enough.

Yes, totally. Really depends on a ton of factors, can only tell what I went through.

Just pay a detail shop to do it, or pass on it as it will look like ass in the sun.

Toyota color 040 superwhite is a single stage paint with no clear coat. It's not exactly the best at holding up.
Although I believe thier is also another white, but can't remember when it was offered.

I have an '09 Superwhite. I pulled the factory bed decals off quite a few years ago and you can definitely see where they used to be if you look for them simply due to the way the paint ages.

Single color vinyl wraps aren't too expensive these days, maybe look into it and decide if you can live with that instead of the cost of a new paint job if the decal lines look too nasty for you to handle.

My “T/X Baja Series” bedside decals were on my black paint for 5 years baked in the hot sun/weather before removing. The very subtle ghost effect was only there for maybe a couple months, but unless my truck is super clean and you press your face against the bedside, you won’t notice it.

We have a Ford truck at work that was a demo at Kentucky Speed Way for a season. 10 years later you can still tell the difference enough to read the words on a white truck.

Single stage paint. Thanks Toyota! It can be fixed if chalking and dull. As far as the sun fading around the vinyl probably not but worth a try. Never know though, might get lucky. I’d do it myself with compound, polish and a wax rather than take it somewhere that will cost you a pretty penny.

I did forget I polished my truck. It definitely helped. But mine was already still fairly glossy. Ceramic coatings can sort of help.
I love toyota single stage paints.....

I bought a commercial truck that had graphics on it. I took it to a local body shop that owes me favors. They do a lot of work for UHaul and often remove the graphics so the truck can be sold. They used a rubber eraser wheel to to remove the graphics. It took them about an hour to do the whole truck. They didn't charge me anything since they owe me favors. You might check your area and see if there's a shop around that does a lot of work for UHaul. Using a rubber eraser wheel does take some skill so you don't burn the paint.
