Anyone else feel like the harbor freight coupons are almost useless? You can’t use them on any of the good tools. If you want their junk line then you can get 25% off, but if you want any of their decent stuff you gotta pay full price.

I agree, but its not just the coupons.

IMO, their product mix is far less interesting. Over the last 1-2 years they've tried very hard to move "up market." It seems like every week they create a new tool brand that is supposedly high end.

Years ago they had lots of model numbers for the same tool. If they got a bad batch and the reviews became horrible, they could retire the model numer and start over with fresh reviews. Now it seems they're doing the same thing with brands. They have countless brand names popping up. If one gets a bad rep, I'm sure it will silently disappear.

If they had 1, maybe 2, brand names for what they market as "high end", I might give it some consideration occasionally. Then they would have a huge interest in protecting that brand name's reputation because a batch of junk would sink their whole reputatation. But I can't see any reason to consider paying high prices for brand names they've set up to be disposable.

I've always bought a mix of top tier brands, and occasionally low end/cheap stuff. It just depends on the tool and my intentions for it.

About a year ago I decided they're practically worthless to me.

HF is good for 'occasional use' tools and some random small items.

The 20% coupons which are always available make the price for most things palatable.

You can often get good deals on tools on CL, eBay, and in local pawn shops.
