New Pioneer DMH-WC6600NEX flush mount install

After the latest Pioneer update (1.30) my head unit will not find my phones hotspot. It will connect to my home WiFi with no issues. Any ideas?

 

Just finished the install today. That was way more involved than I imagined. A couple questions for the more experienced here. My radio doesn’t get any reception. I bought the adapter from crutchfield. It has a blue wire coming off the adapter. Does that need to get wired to anything? Also, is it better to use the Pioneer gps hardware or just use the crutchfield adapter to use the truck gps?

 

FM antenna is amplified and needs the blue connected.
Make sure you picked the right GPS connector vs the SAT as they are the same shape. GPS is white, SAT is black. The info thread first post should have this.

 

Do you know which wire I connect to the blue antenna wire? And don’t bother with the gps dongle thing that pioneer supplies with the head unit? Just use the adapter to connect the oem connection to the pioneer?

 

The Pioneer head unit provides a blue remote out. It’s solid blue. You tie that to the fm antenna via the adaptor which also has solid blue. Here is what my harness looks like, I left 3 leads for remote out triggers:



EDIT: maybe I am a bonehead and pioneer remote out is blue/white? Can’t remember. I use a

PAC TR4 which has solid colors or at least that’s how I remember it. I see in my harness a blue white feeding the green so I think I am misremembering the pioneer remote out as blue when it really is blue / white. My bad.

 

If it isn’t your blue wire, then check out the pin on your harness adapter and make sure it didn’t pull out. That adapter can be tricky to get in there.

 

I seen that on the instructions if you didn’t have jbl but I have the jbl system do you still cut and splice them?

 

I pulled the stereo and re-did the wiring. The maestro has a blue/white wire which I had originally wired to the blue amp out wire coming off the pioneer. I cut that connection and wired the radio blue to the pioneer blue. I left the maestro blue/white unconnected. Now the radio reception is good. Not sure if the unconnected maestro wire is going to affect anything. Doesn’t seem like it so far.

I used the gps adapter on the white connector on the car side and connected it to the head unit. When I used Waze in CarPlay it doesn’t pick up a gps signal. I love the look of this stereo, but the connections are driving me crazy. Also the avcarassist app is the biggest piece of garbage Ive ever seen. Cannot update the firmware and getting a hotspot connection from my phone is a huge hassle.

The blue provides power and switches things on so I think you need to connect all of the blues together from the pioneer.

 

Just ordered finally after following from the beginning. Anyone have any advice that would either save me some time or help me not mess something up haha?

I have seen people are modifying the jbl speaker setup, do you guys think there’s a significant improvement? I consider myself somewhat of an audiophile and think the jbl sounds pretty darn good. Plus there are people that say this headunit alone improves sound. Thoughts?

 

Has anyone attempted to rotate the Volume/ Up-Down pad so it makes more sense?

 

I haven’t tried that yet. I’ve gotten more used to it now. But I might try if someone else does all the work and posts a step by step.

I think you’ll be happy. I know I am. Wireless CarPlay is great. Audio quality is excellent. The only thing I miss is a volume knob. The screen is much better.

Quick start guide:
1. Solve mounting first. I have some photos of how I did mine. Several ways to get this done. Do the work on the bench and test fit. Use the factory brackets.
2. Do your harness on the bench too and take your time to connect Pioneer to maestro. In retrospect, I’d have done a custom connector vs solder and heat shrink. But that would have added bulk too, it just would have looked cooler. Actually I’d have done two connectors, one 8 pin for speaker and one for everything else. I’m working on an 8 pin speaker injection T from the amps so I can reuse OEM wire to the speakers. Posilock is a nice option, butt connectors are fine too. It’s all color to color, very idiot proof. Make sure to connect the FM antenna blue lead. Read the maestro wiring a few times, all the complicated stuff is in there, I just missed it a bit and wound up asking.
3. GPS and SAT are the same shape connector so don’t confuse them. SAT is black and GPS is white, confirm on the info thread. Info thread has all the important stuff, too, use it as a quick reference.
4. Skip the ODB connector and maybe the 3.5mm audio too. Heck, I don’t even have my USB port accessible anymore. Use a short pigtail for USB if you want that, 2-4” usb-C to female A. Vs the hard adaptor it comes with to avoid damage if you are concerned about that.
5. Be prepared for some pain updating firmware. It really ought to be something the unit can do on its own via wifi. it’s a pretty rough process and doesn’t make much sense. Or do a USB stick. I might go that way next time.
6. Be prepared to flash the maestro a few times. Also some have said it can’t be flashed in the vehicle while connected. Maybe you get it perfect the first time.
7. I had no trouble with the pink wire or any trouble with the power lead but be ready for advanced troubleshooting there.
That’s about it. Lots of leftover parts from the maestro harness and unit which aren’t used. Compatible with Germes with small mods to supply power to it. Lots of super experts on this thread who know more than I do and have better memory and reading comprehension but I’m happy to try too, feel free to hit me up direct as well.

 

I just remapped it using the Maestro. Much less hassle. I never look at the pad when I'm using it now that it is mapped in a more intuitive way so the fact that the graphics don't quite match the function doesn't bother me in the least.

I'm looking to upgrade from the stock (non-premium radio) to this WC6600. It looks like I am only able to find the premium radio bezel with the gunmetal trim but mine is all back. Does anyone know if the little trim ring piece can be swapped between the bezels? Is it just the inner hole that is difference between them? So I could have a bezel that fits this new stereo but matches the rest of my dash.

I don't think I have the skill or tools to modify/cut my bezel to fit the Pioneer WC6600.

 

the trim from your original bezel can be removed and installed on the new bezel.

 

Thanks svermilyea, because I don't think they even make one in all black for the premium stereo. I will try to report back here after I buy one and install it, to confirm. I think I'll also need to ditch the little chrome rings on the AC vents.

 

Im wiring in my stereo and the only plug I can’t seem to find where it goes is the two row black OBDII plug that plugs into the car. Am I missing something?

 

Nope. Skip that one.
