    Hey Everyone,

I live just outside of Nashville, TN. My son has a 2001 V6 4x4 automatic taco that we bought him 7 years ago and it just turned over 200,000 miles. We've had little to no problems whatsoever. I have been a member of the forum for several years and never had a need to post, just read. So, I am interested in buying a new or used Tacoma, and I hope I do not offend anyone...Just need some help. I have read on some auto sites that the 2016 and 2017's are notorious for transmission issues. I realize that Tacoma automatic shifting can be a bit rough, but how true is this regarding these particular model years? I am interested in an automatic, V6, six-foot bed, 2 or 4WD. I am eyeing a couple of 2015's and 2019's primarily because of what I've read about transmission issues in 2016/2017's. Don't really care if it is access or double cab. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

BTW...I tried to post elsewhere, but I got a message saying I needed 50 posts of substance to post there. So, I am asking here.

    Thank you in advance!

There's no problem with the AC60 transmission's reliability/durability. People coming from 2nd gens didn't like the way it's been programmed to shift in 3rd gen application, though it's been improved over successive PCM software updates.

Searching will find piles of complaints here, but also piles of folks who have had software updates that made their problems much better.

Personally I'd chose a 2nd gen. Not so much because of this issue, but other reasons. Like I don't care for the looks, price or geewhiz stuff on the 3rd gens. But that's just me.

If you are going to buy a used example, just make sure you test drive it well, and the price you pay is worth the miles it has on it over new. Resale on some of these things is crazy.

Geez...You guys are quick. Big help already. Yes, the resale values are nuts (maybe a good thing for many of us), which makes it hard to look at used over new.
