I really want to make sure I buy quality obviously, but with getting a Roam Tent, what would be the better choice? Roof rack mounted and my hard plastic tonneau cover, or bed rack mounted with more storage in the bed and no tonneau cover?

I have an access cab so I don't have the ability to store much on top of my cab because of weight issues. that being said I know that even the double cab has a weight limit and I believe putting a rack and a rtt on top of the cab would be too much for the roof and pillars to handle. If you go with a rack over the bed you can get multiple options and choose to either run your tonneau and get a low rack to keep the tent low and reduce drag, or you can put it up high, get more bed storage or even get a cap. there are endless options. the one I decided was best for me was a soft topper and a truss rack from uptop overland. the rack itself is adjustable and the softopper is removable so i can run multiple setups in different situations

I like this idea, low rack, low drag, with my tonneau cover, but how would I mount the rack then? My cover completely takes up my sides of my box, it doesn't leave the sides open.

Check with KB Voodoo. They have bed crossbars that work with some covers. 500lb static weight capacity for an RTT.

I ran my Rooftop tent on my Victory cab rack, no issues even with some decent wheeling. Dynamic weight rating is 100lbs if I recall. I was a titch over that. Static is much higher. I would guess we had 450+lbs with tent, dogs and 2 of us in it. I have seen lots of people run the RTT on their cab, haven't heard of an issue yet. I'm sure there is a story or two out there, but these trucks are built well.
