I had to replace my needle bearing after installing falcon shocks with a body lift. If you don’t do it at the same time as your lift, then you will have to pay for extra labor later.

I was having vibration issue from 40-60 mph in 2wd. Vibration would go away completely in 4wd. Replaced the needle bearing with the ECGS bushing. Problem solved.

I changed mine out preemptively while I had it apart. Other than tearing the seal it was fairly easy. A new seal and some 2” pvc, back in biz.

I like this approach. The bushing is relatively cheap compared to the rest of the suspension. And there is more room to work (driving the new bushing in) with the coil over out of the truck.

Removing the bump stop will let u get a little more swing when tapping the bushing in.

And FYI, many tacomas have been known to have the needle bearing issue while completely stock.....

How long do you huys think i can go before complete detonation? It’s been about 6k since the lift, vibes and noise have gotten a bit louder and affects more speed ranges now. Could feel it in the steering wheel before, now i feel it in the floor too

trouble is, i’m on a big road trip, no places in cleveland have it, and i don’t really want to stick around 2-3 days for shipping and repair....

is it the front diff being engaged or the tcase applying torque that quiets the bushing? Perhaps i could throw it in 4x4 and remove the front driveshaft to limp it farther?

and, does this make a slow, rythmic noise/vibration that’s much slower than the axle’s rotation?

Anyone know of a good auto repair/aftermarket shop in Southern California that understands this issue and can do the job? I can't do it myself.

I tried asking a local shop near my house and they didn't know what I was talking about.

In Western NC here. I’ve been to two shops and so far no one wants to touch it. I went ahead and ordered the bushing and seal in hopes that third time’s a charm.

the shop owner told me they would be able to figure it out but i dont trust them lol. I'm not going to allow anyone to work on my truck unless they know what they are doing.

I went to a transmission shop that did some work on my old military Blazer. I’m pretty confident in his abilities - I guess more so than he is. :)

I had the slight rythmic hum and vibration at 30-38mph on my lifted 2017 with 35k on it when cold. I purchased the platinum warranty package, covers anything that goes wrong with the truck that is non wear and tear. I took it in and the dealer determined it was coming from the front dif. They called me and said the new dif was ordered. Picked it up 2 days later and all fixed (for now} at no charge.
Like the saying goes, if ain't broke don't fix it..........

Third time was NOT a charm. Shop called me back with a $425 estimate just for labor.

3" level kit from Les Schwab, not sure why I gave them another chance, but immediate rumble/vibes... Toyota put in needle bearing for $369, back to butter.

Ironman 3" Foam Cell suspension lift, Black Rhino 17" Stadium wheels, 285/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires, Body Armor Hiline front bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch, Diode Dynamics front low beam/high beams/fogs.
I had a light shimmy in the front end of my '21 after installing my Ironman lift. It was subtle but drove my girlfriend nuts when she drove. I just had the ECG bushing installed and it's totally smooth now and I'm relieved that I know the needle bearing isn't going to come apart and scatter into the front diff. It took about two hours and I bought the tools and seal. The tools are a big help, especially the removal tool. I did slightly grind the edge of the removal tool to help to get it seated behind the bearing.

If anyone wants to buy the tools PM me and we can set something up. I'm in the SF Bay Area if anyone is local.
