The diff whine is how I know I'm at 55 on the highway without looking down at the speedometer. It's the exact same whine I had on my 2016 and my 2019. Happens almost exactly at 55mph.

wow, haven't been on here in a minuet because I have been so busy but damn did this get toxic lmao. I don't have a problem shelling out a little bit but in my mind with the condition the truck was in when I got it and what I have done to it, I just didn't expect a pinion or diff to be done. Turns out I was right and I will explain right now to the extent anyone cares.

Wow, wow wow wow wow wow wow. That is all I have to say about the past month of dealing with this issue. I got to the bottom of it though I think, only time will tell. So when I posted this I had no idea about the supposed "harmonics problems" goin on in our trucks, so as dumb as it sounds, I did not think this was a big possibility because I had never heard of anything like it on a new rig. But it is without a dought a harmonics issue not gearing or mechanical, I am not sure if I mentioned this in the initial post but about a week after I got the truck I was the victim of a hit and run in a parking lot on my rear bumper. It was pretty bad but the frame was supposedly not damaged and I got everything fixed up and a new steel bumper put on. The whine did start a few days after that now that I think about it, since I knew it didn't bend the frame there was no thought in my mind that somehow this could be caused by a little fender bender. I took it to the dealer and after driving it around they agreed with my assertion that something had possibly happened to the pinion assembly, but after putting it on the rack and driving it, NO NOISE WHAT SO EVER! They said they could apply the TBS that I found kicking around on here (attached bellow) but it would be a few hundred and they said from their experience it likely wouldn't solve to issue. I wasn't completely satisfied with that answer as I frequently take this truck places that if I were to blow a diff, that would be her permeate resting place, so I went sherlock mode, my buddy and I did everything we could think of. We drove it around got it hot, put it on the rack and shot the housing with the temp gun to make sure it was in spec, took all my aftermarket breathers off just in case, even drained the oil again, and coughed up the absurd bill for the Toyota 75w-85. nada, no change. So I took a little sample of the 3 month old oil that was in there (was as clean as a whistle btw) and sent it off to Blackstone just to see if they could turn anything up that maybe I couldn't see in the oil. NOPE! The diff is clean. There is nothing mechanically wrong with any of it, the only thing left that one could do if they had they time/inclination is take that rear driveshaft off and check the pinion preload on that crush ring, just to make sure it hasn't backed off by a few lbs; however, correct me if I'm wrong it has happened before, if that where the case and the pinion nut had come lose enough to make a noise, one would probably be able to feel that good about in play in their driveshaft. If it was really lose enough to create this whine, I feel like I would be able to feel that in shaft play but maybe not. Anyway, not sure what other people have done, but I am not eager to go tearing apart the rear of my truck that's under warranty for a few more years just to fix a little whine, hell I already deal with the sound of the Milestar's it's really not that bad. Not happy about it but, what are ya gonna do, who knows what happened to this truck before, who knows what I did to it, not gonna worry about it until I hear a clunk or a grind.

Just take it in and tell them what you are experiencing/hearing, and let things work out as they will. Shouldnt have to pay a diagnostic fee, especially if you call in advance to get the okay to set up an appointment to have it checked out.

As for the issue of ethics, the drivetrain shouldn't fail becuase you had the ebrake on (been there, done that in 4lo). The ebrake might fail, or you might score the drums, but the diff should be okay.

As for the toxic replies, welcome to TW where one can experience Socal culture from the comfort of their couch from anywhere in the world.
