I’m gonna skip over and come back to the awesome Mojave Rd trip from Thanksgiving to highlight a milestone



The GFC has been moved over from @desertjunkie760 truck to the BRWNTRD with a huge help from @YumaTRD and @Tombiology70

Time to get it filled up and head out for adventures Friday morning

Over Thanksgiving @desertjunkie760 and I did the Mojave Road, east to west. Left Wednesday night and made a quick stop at Truckhaven before we made camp in Box Canyon south of Joshua Tree.

 

Thursday morning we headed to the far east end of the road in Nevada just north of Needles, CA. We started the trail around 1PM, stopped at Fort Piute for about an hour where both Belle and Axle learned about cacti the hard way, and then made camp in Caruthers Canyon around 5, just before the sun was setting. 3ish hours on the trail, 50ish miles on dirt.

 

Friday morning we headed out around 10, first taking the trail north passed all the campsites until a rock fall blocked the way and made Shane 30 point turn up a steep bank

We found @d.shaw and @prof.jones at the end of the gnarly whoop section and continued to run into them for the next two days. We stopped at the Lava Tubes which is pretty cool if you like going into dark holes in the ground.

Next stop was a side run to Baker for firewood and then we found a campsite near Paymaster Mine a little before the sun set. Day 2, 6ish hours, 80ish miles.

 

My little pup blaze stuck his nose right in a cactus on a trip. Then found out that the tweezers were missing from my first aid kit and I had to resort to using plyers. It was a pain getting all of those needles out of his nose. I now carry a dog specific first aid kit with its own set of tweezers and have another set in my first aid kit.

 

I feel like there was a substantial amount of details left out in these posts.

Like how it was 30* Thursday evening with 20 mph winds and we woke up with frozen water or the high casualty count we had....

Saturday morning we backtracked a bit to look at the petroglyphs before continuing westward. Soda Lake is a lot of fun, just watch out for the G outs.

We went all the way to the river crossing which is now mostly filled in and only a few inches deep and met up with @dwphoto before backtracking a bit to Spooky Canyon. We explored a bit before lack of light and refreshments sent us back to the trucks.


We found a campsite west of Afton Canyon, down the wash from the river crossing. As soon as finding camp I headed back up the hill for better internet and cut a tire, the third on this truck and then things got fun. Don’t use a jack unsupported in sand folks, it’s dangerous. Day 3, 4ish hours, 70ish miles.

 

I was sitting at Discount typing this up on the phone, the intent is go back and add some details, like how sad Belle was to be in Baker, CA.

Sunday was just a quick drive down the wash to the interstate where we sat in Vegas traffic for way too long heading down Cajon Pass. Day 4, 30 mins, 10 miles

Was good meeting up with you guys for like 14 mins hah. Next time we at least need to have a sport soda.


No bueno on the sidewall gash... looks like you took care of that with some new meats..

 

Nope, now heavier Toyo Open Country M/Ts weighing in at 67lbs each vs 60lbs for the MTRs. But hopefully sturdier sidewalls.
