Got to Avon Saturday night. Rained most of the day yesterday. Beautiful this morning. Fishing ain’t too good so far, but who cares when you are in one of the last unspoiled spots on the east coast.

Portsmouth Island or South Core? Wish we could join ya but may have a need to return home quickly so will have to live with just Hatteras - poor us:D If Portsmouth, tell Kari and Rick that Al from Tarboro says Hi.

We will be on south core. Had a truck cancel last minute so there may be a ferry spot opening up.

No, but there are many campgrounds basically right behind the dunes.

I don’t think you can “camp” on the beach but there is no restriction about being on the beach all night. People stay out there and fish all night. We were out there last night till about 11pm. You can have a fire on the beach as long as you get a permit. The fire permits are free. The driving permit is not. $50 for 10 days, $100 per year. The rules for night driving change during different times of the year.

Fishing is still not good. We went down to the south end of Hatteras Island today and tried it. We have only caught a few small blues, one undersized drum, and a few pompanos. We did see a guy in Frank & Frans yesterday with a 5lb trout he caught on the sound side.CFC5BE96-EC80-489F-B19B-95692D1D9930.jpg

Anyone ever fish in the sound around Oregon inlet or near Manteo in a kayak? Looking to bring mine down this year to try it.

I too plan to do this. I've been told to not hit Oregon Inlet in a kayak as the flow is just too unpredictable. Thinking of doing the sound-side kayak fishing trip offered by Kitty Hawk Kites out of either Manteo or Nags Head and bring my own yak just to get a sense of where they go and what conditions are like. (It's $100 if you bring your own yak, 4 hrs on the water.) I'll be at OBX next week w/o the yak to check things out as well...
