I'm certified in Solidworks. I need to mess around with Fusion since it's free. I don't know what the disdain is for autodesk but I've been trained in it's suite as well except fusion.
I tried to move up here into a solid modeling position but since I don't have a fancy piece of paper I was looked over.

Yeah, that piece of paper says that they are liable for any dangerous or faulty design mistakes they make, the pay seems worth it though. The test for that piece of paper is also actually very hard in all engineering disciplines. If you just want to be a draftsman, I can get you hired tomorrow. But who wants to just connect dots on somebody else's design?

F360 is like a 2WD 4 cyl AT SC Tacoma. It just doesn't have what it needs to do what I want. Plus it's poorly optimized and lacked some reeeeeeally simple features that would improve quality of life. It also struggled to export some file types, but that may have gotten better or worse since then. Plus, they removed the ability to run my Gcode and CAM files straight to my CNC machines without the premium "monthly fun-pass," as I'm fond of calling it. Don't get me started on the cloud-only file storage. I have tried going back to it a few times, but I end up getting frustrated because there either isn't a tool to do a thing I normally do, or it takes an extra 4 clicks and a different viewing mode.

Do you use SW at work regularly?

@Sear87 I just found Draftsight from Dassault, the same company that makes Solidworks. It may not be what I'm looking for, but they offer a 30 day trial that I'm going to do. Even though it's not a perpetual license, it's like $100 a year.

That piece of paper is a Bachelors Degree.

I might try to persuade my old machining professor into getting me a student seat for SW again. :D

AFIK different levels of government require varying levels of certification and licensing depending on discipline and design requirements to even be allowed to be called an "engineer". I know that my brother-in-law is a civil engineer and his licensure test was not a cakewalk and happened after he graduated. Again, YYMV lol. At least that's my experience in my personal and professional sphere of influence.

On a semi-related note, when my brother graduates with a doctorate in math, I'll be addressing him as "Doctor Brother". That one may or may not require a certification.

Since he lives in a mega-lockdown state, probably. But I'd have to quarantine for two weeks before my appointment if I went to visit. He also just teaches via Zoom now. So I guess I could show up to his office hours lol

Title of Job was Tool Designer, not engineer. So :notsure: I'd just be making tooling or fixtures not actual parts.

Dunno, then lol I'd have promoted you

So like fixturing and jigs and whatnot?

All of the good product design engineers listen to their machinists and die makers. If you work for Honeywell, then you have stiff competition at most levels from what I understand, so it could be something like that wherever you work.
