Newbie here. Just picked up a new Tacoma a few weeks back and had a question about Android Auto.

Google Support says that Android 11 has wireless Android Auto built in now. I clicked around on the page and there's a link to see if your vehicle is compatible. It shows 2020 - 2021 Tacoma's are Wireless Android Auto compatible.

I have a Galaxy Note 10 and it's on the list for the Android 11 update in a few weeks. Just wondered if anyone have an Android phone with Android 11 and is using it yet and if so, how well does it work.

The reason I'm curious is, Samsung is known for delay after delay. Their website might say January, but that could easily become November 2021. There's some good Christmas deals on phones right now and if it's actually up and running and working as smoothly as the cable... It might be time to upgrade.

    Thanks.

Ooh. I run a pixel and I'm on 11. Is there a setting inside the head unit to enable this?

That's where the lack of information is a problem. I found a video from Honda that said your phone has to be connected, but didn't specify how, WiFi Hotspot or Bluetooth. Then the Google Support page said it has to be connected via the WiFi Hotspot which the 2020+ models has a Hotspot. It says 5ghz band only. I can't find anything from Toyota to verify if the truck hotspot is 2.4 or 5ghz. Then on another website it said, if your phone updates to Android 11 you just erase the phone from the truck, plug it in like your setting it up from scratch and once you connect it all, the next time you get in and start the truck, it will automatically connect wirelessly.

The Galaxy Note 10 is only on Android 10, so I can't even play around and figure it out.

I think the Truck doesn't have the hardware.
I am curious to see what the 5ghz does differently.
I have a Note 10+ and will definitely try when Android 11 comes out

Can you post the instructions? I'll give them a try with my Pixel and report my findings. But I'm not super good at this sort of thing.

I believe that link is saying that 2020+ Tacoma's are AA compatible, not AA Wireless compatible.

Maybe Toyota will enable it in the future. The wifi hotspot currently in the headunit is for connection to AT&T in-vehicle Wi-Fi.

A few of us have purchased this dongle, and are waiting for arrival.

Wellllll hell! There went that Christmas wish. Didn't get any snow. Will probably have to mow the weeds in the backyard in a couple weeks and now Wireless Android Auto is gone.

Looks like the current Android Auto version has it... guess it is all on the Toyota side.

Wireless Android Auto is turned on in my phone.

I'll try clearing the phone data from the truck and see what happens.

Seems like it's worth a shot.

I am NOT a 2021 owner, but wanted to offer a different perspective: I have a Kenwood (DMX-905S) HU that has AA wireless support. I went from a PixelXL to a Pixel 4a and the XL's AAwireless connection was flaky at best that I gave up on it. With the 4a it can connect fast and it is consistently working. I mention all this because it is clear the phone made the difference for me. AAwireless supported HU's just need the newer phone OS level to clear up the quirks - at least for me. Good luck!

Tried today. Nothing I tried seem to make any difference. Someone smarter than me could maybe try, but I'm going to guess wireless Android auto still isn't supported.

Yeah. Pretty sure its a hardware/software issue with the head unit
