How bad is the gear hunting with 255/80/17 and how bad is the speedometer off? Anyone running these in the 4runner pro wheels? Pics?

And in addition, but just guessing, people going as wide as 285 are likely getting wider rims with different offset and backspacing that could indirectly cause rubbing. The nice thing about 255's is that you can just mount them on stock rims and not worry about all the offset-backspacing stuff; plus save some money.

Gear hunting is worse than the 265/75/16s I was running. Speedometer is off by about 3 mph at highway speed.

My neighbor 2018 is slightly lifted, after replacing the ome coils twice from sagging he is pushing me to get the 255/70s. I run Toyos in 265/70/17 on 4runner pro wheels and 5100s. No issues at all with 265/70s. Not wanting to loose any mpg, power, more gear hunting, inaccurate miles to empty, calibration issues or rubbing. I'm not removing the mud guards at all, so I'm thinking the 265/70s is a happy medium. I saw his new tires last week and from the side they look great, but damn they are skinny as can be looking. He is on 4runner pro wheels too, he is rubbing slightly and a new alignment should cure that. I drove it and there is a little sluggish feeling but I run a sprint booster so I may be just use to my truck. Side angles look great but from the front and rear look out, they are very narrow looking! The speedometer being off, still on the fence but not really needing new tires just yet. I'm thinking for me that a 265/70 is probably the best solution as I have no issues at all, no rubbing, no mpgs lost, nocalibration needed, light and easy to balance and they look great.

I don’t consider 265/70 or 255/70 to be pizza cutters. Both are about as close to stock you can get without being stock so they should both work fine. No worries. I have 255/85r16 and they are noticeably skinnier than 285/75r16 and also work just fine.

What's the consensus on rubbing when running these stock on Sema pro wheels? I went through a lot of the thread but didn't see a concise answer?

Yup on 4runner pro wheels. Speedometer is just a couple off at 60. Gear hunting is the same, maybe s little worse uphill.

For those interested, I recently installed a set of 255/80/17 Toyo Open Country A/T III with TRD Pro wheels on a fully stock 2019 Sport (no lift). Photo is below. I've also attached a writeup for those looking to dive deeper.

TL;DR - with this wheel/tire combination, there was no rubbing at ride height, but the clearance is close. You'll probably want to do some very simple trimming and molding of the fender to make a bit more space just to avoid the issue. Clearance to the cab mount is fine - no chop needed. Did a stuff test and tire clears cab mount by at least 0.5 inches. Increased ride height by just over 1 inch. Very happy with the results.

255/80/17 on my truck, the tires are not really that narrow, you can barely tell the difference between them and factory tires.
