This is what I am doing. As soon as my truck hits 50k, my fox shocks are coming out, getting shipped out and being rebuilt. I want peak performance from my shocks, and spending $800 every 50k (5 years) is not a issue for me. I dont need my piston shafts getting all scored up, I have already replaced one piston shaft on a rear due to a broken threaded part, the shaft cost me $90.

Hmm I’ll have to think about this. What’s a full new set, like $2500?

I have 50k on my stock Pro Fox shocks now, and I rock crawl in the mountains every 3-4 months. Truck still rides as smooth as it did brand new.

Idc if people want to waste money on suspension maintenance every couple years, just saying if it ain’t broke don’t worry about it. Should be common sense

In this case, your analogy may not be the best. If it was, then why would you do an oil change on your engine if it "ain't broke".

Broke and working like brand new are 2 different things and there are plenty of places inbetween. All I am saying is that unless your suspension is some blessed with some sort of magic, its not as smooth as it was brand new. 50k miles of driving your truck, the suspension has degraded, but it has done so at such a rate that you dont notice it, thus the boiling a frog.

And its not really wasting money. If I have to service my suspension every 50k at $800 each time I can go 200k with optimal performance for the same cost as buying a brand new suspension. If you run your suspension untill something breaks, then your repair bill will be higher than my repair bill for the same amount of time, not to mention the sub par performance it has until it actually breaks.

I have a 30 year old MR2 with half a million miles on it that I beat the shit out of on the race track. My dad had an 85 4Runner with over 800k..Some of y’all just sound like yuppies who easily get suckered into unnecessary work on your vehicles. Did you also purchase the extended warranty for your truck?

one thing I’ve never understood on both these and the Raptor suspension...what do you do while they’re out being rebuilt? Are you expected to either not drive or have a second suspension for use during maintenance downtime...?

There are a few dealers in CO and AZ that have a rebuilt set on the shelves ready for a swap.

You're expected to park it (have a second vehicle, Uber, rental, etc.). If the downtime isn't acceptable to you, get it rebuilt at a local shop or DIY in your own garage.

Suspension fluid brakes down over time. Just like engine oil. This can cause other damage within the shock, piston, shaft and even the shock body. This is why Fox recommends the service at 50k.

So you can approach this in two ways

If you want to run the Fox pro shocks for the life of your truck have them serviced per the recommended service interval.

Or run em until they leak or performance degrades and replace them with a shock of your choice.

When I swapped out my offroad suspension for a pro suspension, I kept the old offroad suspension. When it comes time for me to send mine out to be rebuilt I will just swap in the stock suspension and keep going. When people get pro suspension I always tell them to keep their stock stuff, its just not worth the $100 you can sell them (stock trd offroad suspension) for when you have a issue with any aftermarket suspension.

I have been, and still dealing with that ignorant attitude for 21+ years as a professional bicycle mechanic with people wanting their bike to have the best performance but not following manufacturer maintenance schedules for their fork, shock, and dropper seat posts. Then when the part fails due to their lack of maintenance, they lose their shit since they have to buy new due to the worn-out internals that are no longer available.

No different to maintenance schedules on ATV, UTV, snow machine, moto forks and shocks.
