@itr1275 - thank you for both of the replies and the link!

The GX is shockingly behind on the entertainment system. Not that I need/want a lot, but it doesn't even have carplay yet. Crazy.

So, this is my wife's 2nd GX460. For some strange reason, it has a 4WD LO switch in it.
Not sure what it does, but it's soooooo cute.:spending:
    (seriously, they are pretty sweet)

The GX470’s side curtain airbag recall affect resale - I saw one on offer up from 9 months ago for less than half the price of the rest saying the airbag and dashboard recall had not been done in time and wouldn’t be covered by Toyota.

I looked at the GX460 when I was looking at the 4Runner. The interior felt dated compared to the 4Runner, but it's late in the generation. I also looked at a RX350. The interior is way nicer than the 460.

My wife has the RX350, that works for it's a nice ride. The RX and Highlander share the same platform and are nice but not BOF truck (Tacoma, 4runner, Tacoma) with 4WD Low.

At the time I was torn between something more like a car as a secondary vehicle and keep the Taco (pressure from the gf for a family vehicle), or sticking with one vehicle, but something I can still go off-road with. The 4Runner won.

Agreed. I've warmed up to the look of the 2014+ GX460 and may consider trading for one if i ever get a decent offer on my 2020 ORP.

I thought perhaps I can upgrade that via aftermarket like you can on just about any vehicle, but the Crutchfield website doesn't list any unit as compatible and says "radio replacement is not recommended". Is it that hard to upgrade the head unit on these??

I love my GX. Got it for cheaper than similar T4R's. Have a Tacoma as well, but the GX fits my 2 large dogs and all of the gear more comfortably.

Every time I see a new 460 drive by I get giddy. Probably should have gone with the Lexus but I also just bought a house and booked some nearly trips for the end of the year. I’ll live vicariously through you Prado owners!

Just an update on our '11 GX...wife driving to work Oct 6...smacked a deer @ 65+

No way to avoid...told her when I added the bumper..never swerve or leave you lane for a deer

Let the bumper do its job...well 6 months after install...$6200 damage estimate so far (with new bumper)

No fluid leaks....no tow job....she finished her 12 mile commute after the SO report...

GX is scheduled 11/2 for repairs in Orem Utah...Happy so far with Hartford Insurance..more later

    A couple pics......:(

That's impressive! Glad to hear she is OK. How big was it?

I love the look of the GX460 but something about the 4Runner makes me gravitate towards it. I seem to see a lot more aftermarket options out there for the 4Runner over the GX460. I definitely like the GX460 over the GX470, but I suppose that wasn't really the question.

You say your mpg's not good but 17.3 mpg in the photo shows decent mpg, especially with your 265's. Have you ever achieved 20 or above on the hwy?

I definitely prefer the GX to the 4Runner. The 4Runner is way more capable than a 460 out of the box just because of all the beauty cladding they throw on the Lexus, but if you're willing to cut and modify, the Lexus is at least as capable and who doesn't love a buttery smooth V8? My wife just got a new 460 and we drove the 4Runner. The power numbers aren't that different but the Lexus feels more brawny. If I were buying a dedicated trail rig, I would give a hard look at a well maintained 470. Those things can be modified a million different ways.

Here are a few shots of the new GX from a few weeks ago

Planned mods for the next few months:
    Magnaflow muffler
    Tow hitch receiver
    BFG KO2s
