newspaper today was great, main reason i dont like this gas station either is when i was 15 my dad took his bronco thru their car wash and it tore his factory antenna off the rig, cost like $700 for a new cowl, paint, new antenna, etc. They took no responsibilty, even though their sign at the time only said they werent responsbile for damage due to non standard accessories.

Napan spray-paints profanity on his garage in protest

The quest for a little peace and quiet has led one Napa man to the extreme step of defacing his own property in protest.

Last month, Dave Bryant spray-painted expletives on his own white, two-car garage next to his house off the Silverado Trail after what he called an angry exchange with an employee who works at the gas station next door.

Late-hour leaf blowing was the object of Bryant’s ire.

Kellie Reed, who manages the Shell gas station at the corner of the Silverado Trail and Lincoln Avenue, said an employee used the leaf blower at 8 p.m., in compliance with city rules that require that noisy commercial activity stop by 9 p.m.

Bryant said the leaf blower was on at 10 p.m.

He wrote the profane words on his garage, he said, because “nothing else works.”

Over the past few weeks, Reed, who stands by her employee, has unsuccessfully tried to have the wording removed.

“It’s an eyesore to any adult that walks by or use the car wash,” Reed said Tuesday as she pointed to the two-word expression painted in dark gray paint nearby. “And it’s not the proper message we want the children of Napa to grow up with.”

She has called the city of Napa’s graffiti hotline and non-emergency dispatch line in hopes of having Bryant remove the sign.

Jane Hamer, code enforcement officer for the city of Napa said it may look like graffiti, but it is not because the property owner himself spray-painted it.

“It’s his own property and he has the right to paint it,” Hamer said. “The city would prefer that such things would be removed.”

Bryant, 49, has spray-painted his garage at least twice before since 2008, Reed and others said. Napa Police Lt. Debbie Peecook said Bryant previously removed the writing when police asked.

The Shell gas station has been under various ownership over the decades. Over the past two years, the city’s code enforcement division has received three complaints against the business, according to the city. No one was cited, Hamer said.

The last complaint was filed in May, according to the city. It spells out several allegations, including that the business has accepted gas delivery trucks before 7 a.m. in violation of city rules and that the car wash’s air compressor ran all night.

In a May letter to Reed and owner Au Energy of Fremont, the city spelled out a series of corrective actions. According to the city, Shell can receive gas deliveries only between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. and has to turn off the car wash compressor at night. The manager was accommodating, the city official noted.

Reed said that all deliveries happen before 2 p.m. A driver a year ago tried to deliver gas after 9 p.m., but he was told to come back, Reed said. The car wash is open 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. to appease the neighbors, she said.

    nah

although this article got me thinking i wonder how long the neighbor has lived at that house, hopefully not for more than 10 years ago, cause while im siding with him for now, ill be pissed if he was bitching and moaning about the bar / resturant that used to be next to said gas station

i only remember going there once, but my dad said it was the greatest place in town, Harry o'shortals it was called, they had a dock out back on the river and a to go lisence so a lot of the fishermen would stop by for a drink

cant remember what exactly happened, but heard they got a lot of shit for adding onto the place without permits, and it may or may not have burned down

Napa is one of the most unfriendly places around here to own a small business, although ill admit i dont feel one bit of sympathy for that gas station because of the car wash incident mentioned earlier, and the fact that they have some of the highest prices in town.
