I’m late to the party but I have a Snugtop Rebel on my ‘17 DCLB. I love the look of it, and having the windoors and carpeted liner have proven to be well worth it. It also has the key fob tie-in for locking/unlocking and led strip inside.
Ive had it for about 2 years now, and I’ve used it in many ways including sleeping inside it. I also built a storage platform that goes in the bed when we go on longer camping trips (link to that thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-tacoma-bed-storage-platform-build.584111/ ). As functional as that platform and shell are together, they don’t pair well for sleeping in the back. I don’t mind it so much when it’s just me, but for my girlfriend and I it’s just not enough room. The platform goes about to the top of the wheel wells and we use a 2” backpacking pad on top, all that combined doesn’t leave us much headroom.
I’ve been really eyeing the TopperEZ Lift system, although I don’t see myself doing enough sleeping in the shell to warrant that. Then I start contemplating going for a higher roof shell, but I think that would only give me another 3” of headroom, but for me the drawback is the looks - the high-top doesn’t look as sleek to me.
I think if I were to really commit to sleeping in the back, I would sell the shell, and save up for a GFC or similar.
But at the end of the day, the Rebel paired with the platform makes for a great safe and dry space to store my gear for trips. It looks good, the color matching is perfect, and I’ve been extremely happy with it.

How hot does that black shell get? I’m wondering if a black shell would be unbearable to sleep in in sunny days
