Check the oil every 90 minutes of run-time. Tecumseh's have a bad habit of burning oil in a very sneaky, stealthy fashion. They'll run forever if you keep them oiled, though.

 

My craftsman 11 hp started eating it this past snow storm.... working it hard and sounded like it!! Checked the oil level and was like this thing never ate oil!!! Haha so I changed it and added fresh oil... so we’ll check it from now on.... it’s at least 15 years old.. yes it’s tecumseh

 

I have a very similar unit built in 1968. It was marketed as a portable power unit that you could mount various "Ariens Trac-Team" attachments, the "Sno-thro" was the most popular but others were offered too: rotary mower, reel mower, lawn vac, rotary broom, shredder/grinder. I have only seen the Sno-thro and rotary mower in person.

Your newer model looks to have the operator presence control on the left hand -- release it and the machine stops. Mine has a clutch like a car -- release the handle and off it goes continuing until it runs into something. I paid $100 for mine 20 years ago. As you said slow but a great little workhorse.

 

You are probably asking the wrong group of people for help if you DON'T want to buy something...

 

I’ll probably catch flak for this, but the Toyota is long gone. Needed more space and comfort. I do the drive from Calgary to Kenora and back 7 times a year. It’s a 3000km or 1800 mile round trip. I get better mileage on the highway, and the cabin is so much quieter and more comfortable than my 2nd Gen was. I chose Ram after testing every brand but Nissan. Borrowed a friends Ford for a day. My back couldn’t reconcile itself with the seats. Rented a Chevy for 3 days. The 5.3 seemed lacklustre, and didn’t pair well with the transmission. Rented a Ram for 3 days, bought mine shortly thereafter. I know a lot of people who have Rams, and talked to a number of people at work who owned them. Feedback was mostly positive. Trusted them over the internet. April will be 5 years of trouble free ownership but I’m pretty big on not only scheduled, but preventative maintenance.

Anyways, I stick around here because of the sub forums. Such a great community. I get my tractor, guitar, airplane, and dog fix all in one place. Keeps my bookmarks bar remarkably uncluttered. I do wish I had another garage to fill with more toys though. A hangar would be even better.

Sweet... we use a land pride quick attach for the counter weight which is homemade ... we modified it some since the pic... was 600lbs now less ...

 

No, there is a bit of wiggling, as they don't slide completely in

But I saw that there is some compacted dirt in the teeth... I'll let them soak overnight and scrape that dirt off tomorrow and then see if with all this dirt out they will fit better

And yeah, they won't need replacing anytime soon, so if it still doesn't fit...

 

So far, it works well as a counter weight for plowing snow. Has enough weight that I was able to push snow up the hill from the house, which is A very steep grade. I was wondering if I’d have enough traction without chains, but the R14’s have held their own so far. I was told the BX23 couldn’t run chains because of the backhoe, but shouldn’t be an issue with it off I wouldn’t think. I’ll get a set if needed. Maybe I should just put the hoe back on so I can pull myself out with it if a get stuck?

 

The dodge will pull that out ;-). One attachment we don’t have... no hoe.

 

I would need a new garage to organize my old garage, the old 10 pounds of stuff in a 5 pound bag problem...

 

I was on the fence about it. Lots of work for the backhoe when I bought the tractor, and a few jobs planned already for next summer. There will probably be a point though where I now longer need it, and may trade for a B2601.

The tow hooks on the front are so handy. Don’t know why they aren’t standard on the 5th gen Ram.

 

Interesting... brother joe keeps pestering me about stepping up to a full size ram!! I do like his power wagon though!! Front/rear locker/winch/sway bar disconnects.... I pulled this tree which the taco was match for.... taco was to light in the snow

 

I'm a 'drive what you like, and what best suits your needs' kind of guy. If the Tacoma does what you need a truck to do, and you're happy with it, no need to change.

I do thoroughly enjoy my Ram though. Not particularly brand loyal, but barring anything stupid or catastrophic, I'll probably choose Ram again when the time comes.

Edit to say, that's a pretty sweet looking truck your bro has.

 

Yes I don’t normally pull trees out uphill in snow... but did wanna see what the taco had to offer with the rear diff locked... did what I thought it would... beer does this to you!!! Anyway yes Im happy with my taco and it most likely be in the family for some time.

 

We yanked this off the dam and it flipped over the wrong way and dug right into the face of the hill and I was done for. Grabbed the dodge and well.... we cut it up for fire wood

 

Here is my 12x20 wellhouse where I keep my 3240, XT3, brushhog, box blade, snowplow, 2 dump trailers, and cultivator.



Here is my 24x34 garage.
I put 3 cars in it and still have a big work area behind my Taco. All my tools and 2 welders are in here. I have a 3205 that sits behind the Taco I'm refurbing right now. I usually move my truck out to do work.
