I am contemplating whether or not to get the extended warranty. I bought a 21 Tacoma with 4 cylinder, just for daily road travel and in my experience, if something is going to happen it will be in the first couple years. I believe 2700.00 is steep to cover from 36k thru 100k miles. Anyone input?

I think the price tag is steep and guys negotiate that down.
Do you plan on keeping the truck for 5-10 yrs ? With all the new electronics I’d buy one if I was upgrading.

Everyone needs to decide for themselves but I said no to the extended warranty. If it was another brand (especially with a turbo) that answer may be different.

I paid for the extended and a service called DentGuard. I use my 21 TRD OR for a daily driver for field service work. With all the electronic stuff in the newer autos, PC's Buses, etc. I dont have time to mess with all that. I need to be able to take it to the dealer and get it fixed. The DentGuard covers 1 factory windshield a year and unlimited rock chips, also dents, rim rubs, fabric tears. The factory windshield alone is $750+ as it has electronics and you have to get the Toyota one. Just as Bink stated, crawl under your truck and look at all the modules and wires, also there is a mini pc rack under the dash. All that stuff cant be cheap to replace and calibrate.

I've always said no, and to date, I'm winning.
For most, obviously that's the way the numbers will work.
For others, thousands of dollars are worth the piece of mind, and for a select few it will actually pan out..

Dealerships make more profit margin on warranties than anything else. Think about that for awhile.

You have until the 3yr/36K warranty runs out to decide. $2700 is a terrible price, they are trying to rip you off by well over $1000. Get quotes from other dealers and tell them what you are willing to pay ($1000-1300 is about the average of what people who know better get it for). But again, you don’t have to buy it right now. I went back in and cancelled mine during the grace period because I was very tired that night by the time I signed the papers and I said yes to it. A week or 2 later realized I was lied to about the “deal” I got, so I went in and ended it. I have no plans to buy it again. I bought a Toyota because they are the most reliable trucks in the world. Toyota knows only a small fraction of the people who buy these extended warranties actually end up using them, and they make millions if not billions of $$s on them. Most problems happen within the initial warranty, or well after 100K.

use the search for Platinum Warranty, looks like a number of people are getting it for $1300ish and I though someplace was selling them for something stupid like $999

yes, is it big profit for the dealer but it could be a big savings for you if you need it and given the production issues currently this year I might take the extra coverage for 1300

if your gonna drive 20k miles a year... 100k warranty is worth it if you can work the price down

It's amazing how awesome and all inclusive extended warranties are on the day they are sold vs the day you need them. (normal wear, not covered, abused, damaged not worn, etc.) I'm sure someday something expensive is going to break on something I own, when it does, I'll still be ahead by virtue of all the extended warranties I've declined on cars, trucks, appliances, TVs, computers, cell phones...

Seems pricey to me. If it was truly bumper-to-bumper, as the factory 36k warranty is, then it might be worth it. As with any extended warranty, it ultimately won't be worth it unless something shits the bed. Some people like the peace of mind though.

WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO REACH YOU IN REGARDS TO YOUR VEHICLE'S EXTENDED WARRANTY!

    :bananadead:

It's just a cash grab, hard pass. They will find a way to deny your warranty claim.

Yeah that bumper sticker you put on is an unauthorized modification to the vehicle which caused your injectors to fail. Didn't you read the fine print?

Their lawyers are better than yours too.

Call Wolverine Toyota in Michigan (734-242-3900), they offer the Toyota Platinum warranty at a considerable discount.
I paid $665.00 for the 5 year, 100K Toyota Platinum Warranty.

I noticed you purchased the SR. I would say no to the warranty because it's a new toyota! I'd keep 1-3k liquid cash in a savings account. Tacoma "mod/emergency" fund that isn't tied into the purchase of the truck. If I had a TRD then I'd consider long term warrently because I'm sure all the electronics would need maintenance long after 5-10 years.

Edit: If you have money for a tacoma... Buy the warranty if it gives you peace of mind. We all have our vices: mountain biking, golf, stamp collections or..... Tacomas.

OK, this is my third vehicle with extended warranty, and here is the math:
For KIA Sedona minivan extended warranty was $2000 till 150 000 kms (here in Canada).
3 minor malfunctions (electronic components) fix was around $5000 - so, warranty paid off more than twice.
Nissan x-terra, was under extended warranty for$1500 until 120 000kms. Well, it cost Nissan around $24 000 (!!!)
to fix all "legendary quality" issues. Speechless, but happy.
Got my current, 2019 Tacoma on extended warranty for 10 years/200 000 kms, for $1200 (!). (I know, I'm lucky bastard)
So far I like quality of this truck, but extended warranty is a real peace of mind. Price in your case too high, I can advice
to negotiate with other dealerships, what they can offer. Warranty can be purchased in any dealership.
    Good luck!

I have a blanket rule never to buy extended warranties for anything. They're suckers' bets.

If something serious is to go wrong with your Tacoma, it's most likely to be during the initial warranty period. After that, if you have set aside the amount you would have spent on an extended warranty, you'll have a tidy repair fund. And you won't have to worry about the numerous exclusions that are built into extended warranty contracts.
