So unless someone has tried every single off road tire, they can’t answer this. All they can do (which everyone will do) is chime in on the best tire that they have personally used.

My best personal off road tire is the Cooper ST Maxx. Love those tires and will go back to them in the future.

I'm another person who thinks E rated tires are overkill on a Tacoma. That is unless you are ok with the feeling of cruising around in an empty dump truck. But if one insists on a good E rated mud tire, I suggest the Firestone MT2. I never see them mentioned on here but they are generally a bit lighter than the competition and they actually have some siping to help out on slick roads.

I too believe E-rated can be overkill unless you are wheeling on lava rock. 99% of flats occur on the highway and C-loads are more than enough protection for ripping up trails and terrain. I still rock a set of Hankook AT RF11’s. They are a highway SL tire, but I have given them hell on some gritty/rocky trails (50+mph) and they have done well ...surprisingly. E-load seems best fit with a lot of weight in the truck (“overlanders)”) and seriously sharp/sketchy terrain.

I get the feeling that some of you "E" haters have some really sensitive butts if you feel that "E" rated tires are just to stiff and bumpy for a Tacoma.

My 17 Taco with "E" rated MTs rides quieter and smoother than my wifes 16 Corolla or my daughters 17 Rav4.

Try running 16" wheels for more rubber between the ground and the wheel instead of 17 or 18s. Sure, I understand that 16s don't have the same "gram" appeal as 17s or 18s, but sheesh! Rides like a dump truck, really?

I have no idea what they're talking about. I run 10 ply's with no harsh ride. The razor sharp rocks in my part of Nevada are no joke. I've seen a half dozen ripped up C sidewalls in the last few years.

Really like my 285 KO2s. Been in some sketchy spots and they pulled me through.
For something different the Yokohama MT or the Toyo Mt look good. Going to add the KM3 as well.

I have the same tires with about 13k on them. They have excelled in everything so far.

That said, my next set of tires will be Goodyear MTRs.

The Mickey Thompson's get my vote for best looking, by far.

Really, I have never seen one in person.

I like the story behind them though

Just yesterday, a somewhat benign looking rock tore a hole in the middle of the tread on my SL Cooper at3 4s. Living in Southern AZ, I'm going LT always from here on out

    This and that...
That new super white long bed on E's.

Currently on my first set of E's due to camper. Was worried about stiff ride too, but honestly cant tell a difference unless I were to possibly hit a pot hole or something. I went to a skinny so lighter than my previous too and do corner a bit better. Had Wild Peaks before on Toyo AT3s which I've been real happy with. But I agree, if you're not hauling something heavy, etc then E's are just more expensive and heavy. Cant put a price one peace of mind I guess, actual vs preceived puncture resistance. Went down that rabbit hole before.
Curious, Its a mud terrain but not on mud. Guessing mud terrains are more than just for mud these days. Have to worry about these chipping on sharp rocks or a non issue?
