Every time I check my tire pressure after the Toyota dealership rotates the tires the pressure is never what Toyota recommends. Why wouldn’t they set it to the recommended level?

Because no one checks the work of the minimum wage guys who are working on your truck.

My question is why do you let them?

Its the same guys that tighten the Oil Filter to 250 Foot Pounds, scratch the wheels, and pump the tires way up to about 50 PSI.

Probably be a better question to ask them.

Funny, i just was wondering the same thing. My local shop sets tires at 35-40psi for my Tacoma, but the note on the inside of the driver's door recommends 26-29psi. My guess is that older vehicles were using different estimates for tire pressure than what we use now. Not sure though. Either way, mine drives and functions great at 35-40psi.

I set it higher due to mid day temps being higher, the light comes on, the customer phones and complains.

I only set temps to cold pressures if its really cold out. Most tacos I set to 34psi warm.

Are you running an E tire?

    If not, Google 'chalk test'

Do it and let us know the resulting pressure

Because I’m not interested in rotating my own tires when professional’s (so called) can do it.
And that’s not answering my question.

I'm just under 900 miles on my truck and up until the last 100 or so the pressure was at 36-37 off the lot and I never bothered to check the door.

I aired down for a trail this weekend and when I set it back to 30 psi cold the truck drove SO much better and smoother

An honest answer is l think the young kids there look at the tire sidewall and see a Max Inflation Number and assume that is what is supposed to be in the tire instead of reading the Placard in the door.

Honestly dealer is the worst place to take your truck for maintenance IMHO. They do not give a shit about you or your truck (99% of dealers)

Much better to take it to a local shop you trust/or has good reviews. I take my truck to this awesome local shop, amazing guys, they always check their work and i can watch what they are doing. Plus, its way cheaper.

    Yes
This is why I do all my oil changes, tire rotations, fluid changes, brakes etc. t
They don’t get enough training or pay. Really would only take the truck to the dealer for a part failure under warranty. Blown shock, engine, belt repairs, tranny, electrical issue and so on. They’re not the ones who dropped 40k on a truck so I feel more comfortable leaving it in my hands.

What tires are on your truck, what does Toyota recommend, what is the recommended pressure, and to what pressure do they air the tires?

The real question is why would you post a question questioning the activity of a dealerships employees. Go ask the dealer.

Agreed. I do all my fluid changes and stuff but when it comes to tire rotations/balancing, exhaust work and such, i take it to a shop. I avoid dealers like plague.

I live in a condo so i dont have a garage. Hopefully in a year or so ill have a house with a proper garage so i can do more work on my truck.

What is the pressure when you get there and what do they set it at ? What tires do you have ? Why does this make you so angry ?

i was riding around on 29 psi cold and when i got it back from the dealer for my first service they set them all to 36 psi cold. honestly, it immediately felt a lot better at 36 psi so i just left it that way.
