Hit a deer on the way to work about 2 months ago. 2018 Access cab Sport auto. Insurance adjuster initially said it didn’t look too bad, but after he started adding up all the parts $$ totaled it.

The air bags deployed, the one under the dash bruised my right shin up a little but that’s all.
There was even an airbag in the side of my seat that blew.

    location Western Maryland

Came up over a rise at daybreak and had nowhere to go, cars in other lane. Knocked the horns off and a leg, looks like the fog light bezel imprint on his side.

Bright side was I bought the truck in April right at beginning of the COVID era and used prices were way down so I actually made out on my insurance if you can believe that. Still had temp tags on it.

In the process of getting a 2021 now.
    Safe travels.CF0DE6E6-94A9-42B0-912C-2D8C358DF90D.jpg 1DE9E892-6ECE-4F8B-9613-0778C968AF96.jpg C52C1836-FB11-48BB-986C-7F0E180FBEBB.jpg D2F7D161-7F34-42F7-B55B-5E4D1D9793A2.jpg

I asked the insurance about a buyback, they said it would be 18-20k. I was able to take my personal stuff out, NO floor mats, No tonneau cover, etc. Insurance had it towed out to their lot the next day.

I feel really bad for you. Glad to know that you are doing well and that you are unhurt. If you are like me after a fender bender I had once you just want to be safe and unhurt and then you want to quickly get everything back to the way it was. Perfectly understandable.

I am curious though as to why you couldn't take a few things off the truck, like the mats and stuff that you mention. I ask because I don't know. Is that standard policy? Seems unfair they don't recognize the value of the mods on the one hand but on the other hand they won't let you take them with you. Did they give a reason?

In any case, I wish you well in replacing the truck quickly and getting back to where you want to be ... and ... a moment of silence for the deer. :)

But the key question is will the insurance company let him take the deer? I kid. I kid.

From what I understand, the insurance adjuster values the truck based on the accessories too. So that affects the total that they pay back to you after a “totaled” accident.
