    Hi all,

I've been following TW for about a year now but just bought a new 2020 Tacoma about a month and a half ago. I figured it was about time I posted, although I wish it was for something more fun!

I have absolutely loved the truck and am thrilled to have it -- although it only took 1700 miles before a kid was driving too fast down the residential road near my house and slid on snow/ice into my unoccupied truck, pushing it about five feet from where it was parked. I feel lucky that not only was I not in the vehicle, and also that he responded by getting a police report and leaving his insurance. Definitely bummed out about the damage, but his insurance is taking care of repairs and I'm hopeful that they will approve my claim for diminished value as well. The collision busted the taillight, the tailgate, bumper and left bumper cover, as well as damaging the hitch. It looks like the driver side rear panel has a tiny, but deep, paint chip from the busted headlight hitting it, so the body shop said they'll be repainting that whole panel.

Looks like I'll have it back repaired in about a month! Excited to be a part of the forum! Pictures below!

Ewwfff that sucks on such a new truck, but glad he did the right thing, not only owning up to it, but also having insurance. I can't believe it, but we're here, we need to praise people for getting insurance, but it's not so common these days,, even before flu.

Be prepared for TW to tell just to pocket insurance money for aftermarket shit and hammer out the damage yourself with your wife's head. Not sure why, but it's there, I don't know how many should I fix it? Threads I've seen on new, or nearly new trucks.

Welcome to the forum - and sorry for the damage to your truck. Luckily no one was hurt, but it till sucks to have your vehicle damaged by someone else. Bad enough if you do it. I lost a '66 Mustang to a similar accident - guy fell asleep and slammed into the left rear of my car and hit3 others before he was done. Bent the frame of my Mustang and totaled it. But, like with yours, no one was hurt, thankfully.

I would just pocket the money and use them on mods. Maybe use your wife’s head to hammer back out the dents....

Very sorry to hear about this damage.
From your license frame I see that you purchased your Toyota from a Ford dealer?!

Thanks for the welcomes, TW has always seemed like a good group of people! I bought the truck from a Toyota/Ford/Lincoln/Honda dealer, so at least it was the Toyota division

I don't know much about paint, but the body shop said they would repaint that whole driver-side rear panel, does that seem appropriate for that chip? I'm just a bit bummed about needing to take that brand new panel and give it a do-over. All the body work looks like it can just be thrown on, luckily.

You want them to blend the paint forward of the chip so the color flows evenly.

Welcome to TW. Sorry about your new truck, that's a bum deal. I had a brand new truck that sustained hail damage within the first month of ownership. Body shop will get you fixed up. About the damage by taillight, yeah if there wasn't any metal deformation and just a paint chip, I'd consider just a DIY touch up paint. Just me or my thoughts, and experience with body shop work in my area.

Or just leave up in the rafters until the end of my days. Most likely the case with my original cheese grater grill.
