..not by themselves they don’t but if you get it processed into sausage or even chorizo and mixed with another meat it can be super tasty.

This trip is creeping up quickly! I was going through the pin drops from the first post and decided Id chime in with some experience. I have camped numerous times on top of the rim near the Friday night pin location. If you go south of highway 260 there is a bunch of dispersed free/wild camping. You can sneak all the way to the very edge of the rim and the views are incredible. There is plenty of room for multiple vehicles.

Contrary to what google maps shows, there is not actually a road that goes over the cliff and down to the bottom, its simply the powerline and its not drivable.

This is the view from the gps coordinates above...

Same view as above but from camp about 100 feet from the edge.

This shows how much room is at that spot.

I also explored the Rim Road recently (though this spot is much closer to Happy Jack).

Tons of space around here. And the views are superb.

I can't wait for this trip!

As a heads up, this trip will be significantly cooler at night relative to last year, so plan accordingly! If anyone has any questions let me know and I'll help you the best I can.

That's a good one at -25 degrees. You shouldn't have any problems on this trip! Keeping your head encapsulated also helps tremendously. I use a mummy style bag personally. Easy to regulate my body temperature during the course of the night by pulling my head out and tucking it in.

So let's talk about the cold for a sec.
What's need to keep warm enough at night in a tent?
I'm thinking a heater isn't gonna work. Are there other things that can be done to help make it more comfortable?
I might be running this one solo the lady definitely doesn't like the cold.

I’m going to try and run an electric blanket off a solar generator battery. Just gonna throw it on top of my sleeping bag. They have a 1 hour automatic turn off which is probably a good idea. The battery can recharge off the alternator while we drive.

I also recently ran a Mr Heater Buddy propane heater with a carbon monoxide monitor. It’s super hot for sure. Basically ran it for 10 minutes to heat up the tent, turn off and went back to sleep. Rinse and repeat a couple times throughout the night.

Just go old fashioned, layers. Nothing will keep you warmer than good old insulation. I use moving blankets and a down comforter.

That is how I do it, but after waking up in the teens, I want something to take the chill off before bed and when getting up. I'm getting to be an old man.
