I dont know if this was already covered but I'm looking for an opinion on the 2.7L access cab 4x4. I will not tow with this truck and gas mileage not important. Strictly a home depot and garbage dump runner. I see them for around $30k. Around $10k cheaper than a comparable V6 similarly equipped. The 2.7 seems like a really good motor. I had a 12' Tacoma with the 4.0L and it had a bad case of predetination. I dont know if that's an issue with 3.5L of today but Toyota has made some bulletproof 4cyl over the years. Just looking for a few opinions before I pull the trigger.

It’s a great engine.. I had a 2.7 and now have 3.5 .. it’s definitely slower but will get the job done

Get the 6-cylinder if you can afford it. Nothing worse than buying a slow vehicle and regretting it afterwards. You will regret it the first time you get stuck behind a motorhome on a 2-lane highway and don't have enough horses to pass it without putting your life in danger.
The 6-cylinder, despite all the complaints about lack of power, purrs like a kitten and will give all the power you could ever need at high rpms.

I have a 17, last year for the 5 speed and it helps the little 4 cylinder wind up pretty decently. If you plan on staying on small, lightweight, OEM-spec tires, itll be fine. 265/75r16's as long as theyre not E load rated are also OK

Most importantly, test drive, test drive, test drive again. Try and get on to a highway and see what its like trying to pass a semi, it takes some time, for real.

i have a 1st gen and a 3rd... the I4 is too weak to pull a 3rd gen 4k+ truck around, never mind the 4wd, it will be useless...it's go forward days are for corp utility vehicles that are stripped out and cheap. It is still a great dependable and cheap engine/vehicle

I may be biased but its definitely not USELESS. Mind you mine has some crap done to it, it scoots around suburban NYC Metro area hell just fine. It's climbed all the same hills my buddies supercharged Tundra has done as well hah

Why buy a new truck for just going to Home Depot and the dump? If it's not your daily driver there's no point to spend $30k imo.

I would just buy a used tundra since you don't care for mpg. Way better payload rating too.
