The dealership just replaced the seal on my transfer case coming from the manual transmission. Drove it home, all was good. Then did an oil change. Drove to the car wash and got a check engine light. Drove to advance to get the code. P0430. Something about the cats not being efficient enough. I also have a TRD catback exhaust, that I installed over 2K miles ago. Does anybody know what could be causing the code? I have 59,770 miles in the truck.

Typical Toyota O2 sensor code. I’ve had the same code in my old 4buggy.

That would be my guess. Some people can get away with cleaning it and reinstalling without rethrowing the code. Just need to figure out which one to pull

P0430 is a catalytic converter inefficiency code. Typically means the converter needs replacing. Also could be bad post catalytic converter O2 sensor. Have you tried clearing it and driving to see if it comes back?

    Edit
P0430 is bank two. I’m not sure of the firing order on the 3.5. So I can’t tell you what side it’s on, my guess would be the passenger side.

Thanks. I am driving to NC tomorrow and won’t be back for two weeks. Will have the dealership check it out when I get back. Hopefully their fault and easy fix.

You should be covered under the Emissions Warranty. I'd double check your O2 sensor connections just to be sure they are secure.

They may have banged the exhaust, make sure to take care of this promptly as this is a very expensive catalytic converter and should be covered under warranty.

Thanks. I have to leave early in the morning to NC. I will call them along the way and might see a dealer while I’m up there. It is driving normal without issue.

Any update guys? I have the same issue and last month Toyota replaced my cat under 80k warranty and it did not fix the issue.

It’s an O2 sensor. They probably banged it when they were working on it and either snapped the wire or maybe they had to remove it and forgot to reinstall it. Those things are good for 100,000 miles and should always be replaced together on the same bank if one goes bad replace them both.

mom almost certain it’s the 02 sensor on the downstream of my exhaust but the code came out before they even touched my cat. I took it in with the p0430 and they suggested replacing my cat.

I hear people saying to put a non fouler but I don’t want to cheat the system but actually fix it.
My plan is to swap 02 sensor 1 with 02 sensor 2 and see if I get a different code referring to the upstream 02 sensor.

We have been seeing an issue with the flanges between the cat pipe and front pipe. not being fully welded. Also seen it around the 02 sensor. Leaks just barley enough to throw a code. Most of the time it takes a year or more to throw a code.. P0430 is the drivers side. If you start your truck cold and have someone plug the tail pipe with rags. You can spray soapy water on the welds and see the leak. Should be covered under Warranty tho
They also could have left the bolts for the front pipe loose or didn't replace the gaskets for it
