Not nuts at all, just make sure you schedule the 2nd inspection to be a few weeks before the 12 years from first date it was registered. Gives you as long as possible. I have my date circled on the calendar for that reason being in MA

 

Downhill s-curve.. top of the hill I tried slowing down.. started sliding toward the woods.. coasted a little more, brakes.. slid the other way.. toward the woods.. steering was gliding. Knowing I'd go tree bound one way or the other I tried to take inside corners and hoped my momentum wouldn't be so great as to sling me into a creek.. I.. was wrong..
