I'm hoping someone can help clarify something for me. I bought the truck with a K&N cold air intake system already on it. I was looking into doing the Unifilter mod to my truck, however the SAIS pump is in a different location than all of the pictures I've seen. Was this possibly relocated due to CAI system? Or is it supposed to be where it is? I've attached a picture of mine where it is located at the front near the radiator. I need to get the kink out of the hose too.

Looks like someone moved it to install the after market intake. Its supposed to be roughly to the rear of where the air filter housing is located.

That's what I was thinking also, but I never gave it a second thought because it looks factory. I'm going to order the filter and do this mod soon.

I've been seeing a trend on the forums that K&N filters are not well-liked and not recommended. Can someone explain why this is, and what do you recommend? I need to know if I should swap mine out for a different brand air-intake filter. Like I said, this setup was done prior to me buying the truck. I'm going to order the Unifilter for the other mod.

I had the same CAI, but where the pump was relocated it sucked in a bunch of water/road spray one day. SAIS had to be replaced a week later. The uni-filter mod may prevent that, maybe. I sold that CAI.

People tend to put too much oil on the K&N filters, and that oil gets sucked into the intake and onto the MAF sensor.

Yes I agree. I've had them in the past and used to oil them until I was told it wasn't really necessary to do that. I just run mine dry now the way it is. I noticed watching a video this morning that the location of my pump is where they mounted them on the 4 cyl early 2nd gen models. I guess whomever had my truck before me got a relocation mount or something when they bought the K&N CAI.

The relocation mount comes with that kit.

True that ^ my CAI also came with the relocation brackets to mount the pump just to the
left of the radiator cap. I can't really see how water can get in it unless high water crossing.
It hides behind the grill and the thick beam in front of the radiator. And it's tucked into an area
that very little spray would get to unless really trying to drown it.

Red is the pump. Id be concerned about the kink circled in green. Spin the tube where it connects to the pump to get rid of the kink.

Thanks man. I ordered the Unifilter this morning, so hopefully will be fixing this in the next week or two. I'll see if spinning the tube will work in the meantime to get rid of the kink.

Will probably have to undo the clamps on the both side of that kinked pipe to figure out what rotation it likes so it doesnt kink.

When mine sucked in water, it had been raining pretty hard. The roads were soaked and traffic was pretty heavy, kicking up a lot of road spray.
