I really only sold my 3rd Gen because my family got larger (new 4th kid). Also, I just bought a house, and I wanted some cash just in cash.

Well, I ended up buying a 1 owner/ routinely Lexus-maintained GX 460 for $21,300. It was a 2011 and it had 104K miles on the odometer.

I am not sure what to think right now.

I drove it home from the dealer last night for an hour, and boy, it feels more solid, more refined, more confident, more smooth, and more comfortable that my Tacoma did at 0 miles. I definitely prefer this 4.6 V8 over the V6 in the 5th gen 4runner and the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I just took it off road probably for the first time in its entire life on some nearby development roads. I have taken my Tacoma on these roads numerous times. 4lo worked still. Also, the center-lock worked even though I probably engaged it for the first time. However, It was a completely different experience compared to the Tacoma. I felt like I was still driving on payment. And where my Tacoma, even with Ovtune 2.0, felt like it was struggling to go up moderate inclines, the Gx 460 went up everything almost as if it didn't even notice it at all.

I know a lot of overlanders and 4wheeler guys/gals want Tacoma's and 4runners. However, I think the GX platform is a far superior platform.

    It's only limited by:

    1)Horrendous Gas mileage
2)Limited After Market that depends highly on Australian and other Foreign Vendors.

Anyways, I hate these "I sold my truck threads", but I just want to spread the word about the Lexus SUVs because they deserve a better aftermarket.

Also, I plan to buy either a 2nd/3rd Access cab sometime next year and own both this GX and a Tacoma. I still love the Tacoma Truck platform.

Nice! The 4.6 is no slouch, and the GX is nice and plush. @Grumpy Uncle wheels his and might be someone to chat up for mods.

GX460 is a Landcruiser Prado, no shock it does well off-road.

Same chassis as the 4-Runner and FJ Cruiser. Plenty of goodies available for it... enjoy, it's one of best deals on a Toyota 4x4 in the USA.

    3) No rear locker?

Otherwise good find! One of the most capable luxury SUVs this side of a Mercedes G-Class. You'll want a beefy fuel tank skid because the tank hangs below the frame (just like the 4R and FJ).

My '06 Runner has the mighty 4.6. As far as I am concerned, one of the finest engines ever. 285k and doesn't burn oil, doesn't leak oil. Tons of power. Just change the timing belt every 100k and all is good.

If my Tacoma had this engine, it'd be perfect.

You got the right body style. Sounds like a cool truck. The reason no one wants a new one is because they are simply the ugliest vehicle ever made by humanity. Let’s face it, overlanding is about 96% fashion, so Lexus faces an uphill battle with their commitment to these hideous grilles.

LOL we went to the dealer when we were shopping and I mentioned we were interested in the GX, I liked the way it looked, he said it would be a complete waste unless you tow. We got an RX

People also dont buy them cuz you are starting at $55k or more for a new one just to get off the lot.

Also the j201 is cool but you are going to be well over 100k for that build.

Only in my dreams, instead it would be pictured in front of Target and days would be spent vacuuming cheerios out of the backseat instead of sand or dust.

I can't help it, sorry. But when I went to my full-sized truck, I was amazed at how, after having Tacomas for a decade and a half, real transmisioned vehicles accelerate and shift.

Not a bad choice I plan on getting an older gx470. Not a bad choice at all. There is a growing list of mods so you will be pleasantly surprised at heats available.

I think the 14 and 15 look okay. I almost prefer the 14 to the 10-13.

but the 2019 and above are too freaking much.

Made in Japan makes a difference though.

I have test driven at least 15 GX 460s with 95k or more miles on the chassis. They all felt like brand new vehicles.

The GX is a great value.....kinda flies under the radar being a Lexus even though it is similar to the 4Runner in capabilities. 100k is nothing.....should easily get 300k out of it with basic maintenance and care.

I think the same can be said about most used Lexus. You can pick up a used IS for 10-15k with around 100k miles.

it’s crazy how you can get a used GX for the same or less than a used 4Runner.

most people looking for Lexus are getting new ones and trade them off prior to 100k miles.

My mom has owned 2. I still maintain my opinion that they’re gutless and the brakes are comically underpowered. Very comfortable though.

$15k for an IS? Wow. I got my LS430 with 80k on it for $12k OTD.
