Home made roof rack question.

I’ve been looking at building a roof rack for my Tacoma with ARE cap. I’ve considered mounting only to the cap and have it overhang the cab as much as possible without attaching to the cab or building the full length. My main question is can you attach to both cab and cap together without having issues with flex between the cab and rear of the cap. I’d have concerns about twisting and possible damaging the rear cap? thx Rich

 

Attaching a rack to both the cab and the cap is probably not a good idea

 

The bed and cab flex independently of each other. Even daily driving, you’re likely to damage something if you try and span both with a solid rack.

 

2 piece rack one on the cab one on the cap depends just what your planning to haul .

If what your hauling can flex with the vehicle .

What is your end game here ??Each application could be different.
