260K on my 2007 and still going strong, never had any problems with engine or transmission! Best truck money can buy.

Yes, I have a 37 mile commute one way to work and about 10 of those miles are interstate. Even with the miles it has on it the 2.7 4 banger still get 19-20 mpg with the 265/75/16 Generals which are 54 lb. each, but I am on the East coast in NC so it is flat land not hill and mountain country.

That sounds pretty good. My truck gets about the same. 20-21mpg freeway. 17 city. Not bad.

250k miles on my 09 automatic 2wd, bought it with 200k for $600. It sees full throttle through every gear every day at lest twice. Burns a quart of oil every 600 miles, so I've got a spare engine I'm prepping for boost. As far as I'm concerned, keep oil in it and I'll keep driving it for another 50k at least.

I'm curious - you guys burning oil- what was you previous maintenance schedule leading up to burning oil ? OCI ? Type of oil used ? Filter used ? Did you own from new or buy used not knowing for sure of OCI by previous owner. I now have 130K OCI 5K fully synthetic . Thanks for any information and all replies.

Mine was an ex fleet truck from a security company, which I bought with 210k on the clock. So who knows what their maintenance was like. After realizing how much oil it was using, I was running stp basic 5w30 non Synthetic due to the price. Changed the oil and filter at 5k and used the stp "gold" filter.

Thanks for the reply confirming what I thought - you do the correct maintenance but the security company probably did not. Merry Christmas if possible.

Yeah I think part of the issue with oil burning is stuck / carboned piston rings. It's not necessarily engine wear. I think running synthetic oil will help prevent this problem since it is better at tolerating the high temperatures seen on the piston and rings/lands. But if you're already burning a lot of oil, I don't think there is a lot you can do. I recently read a thread on another forum about a guy with a Lexus burning 1 quart every 700 miles -- he says the rings were stuck with carbon deposits. He added Seafoam to the engine oil and fuel, and did a series of short oil change services (all with Seafoam in the oil). The oil got dirty very quickly between each service. In the end, oil consumption dropped dramatically, to 1 quart every 3000 miles IIRC. I'm not advocating the use of any additives, just relaying a related story.

I recall seeing quite a few posts on here at some point pointing the finger at the oil control ring specifically, I tried every additive/oil treatment/fuel treatment I could find and never got mine to improve.

My old 2001 went 429k before I hit a herd of deer. Best truck ever. Rear brakes went untouched till 200k. Frame replaced at 300k. Castrol synthetic every 5k.

IMPRESSIVE ! I Think the rings on the older Tacoma's were better - they made them weaker to meet some EPA BS so oil get by them.

I also changed the plugs on the reg. Other then that I beat the crap out of it. I am at 240k on my 14. I spent all summer doing maintenance and upgrading the suspension. Drives better then new. Frame is on wait list to be scaled. Then I plan on doing a frame restoration and repaint.

My first post was my 2001 with 429k. My 14 is just getting broken in. I plan on keeping it awhile so its really just about keeping it lubricated and maintaining the frame.

Since U R replying I'd like to ask How do you put so many miles on ? I only drive 9 miles to work so 50 miles or so to work a week plus some odds and ends.
