Please Share Your Front Diff Problems

Hey y’all, please chime in with any/all front differential problems that you have dealt with. I’m trying to learn more about the anatomy of it before I inevitably have to take a shot in the dark.

I’m pretty certain the CV axle is not the root of the problem, seems like something is going on where the driver side CV meets the differential. I know it’s normal for that one to have some play but mine is pretty dern loose.


If I turn the steering wheel to the left just a little bit so it’s upside down and let the clutch out, it shudders pretty bad kinda like a binding/grind that is faster than wheel revolution speed. I can kinda feel it too if I drive at idle speed in first gear, but it’s only noticeable at very slow speed with slight wheel turn.

P.S. Apologies to anyone who saw my last post but this seemed a more effective brainstorming method.

 

I’d start with the needle bearing.
They make a bushing to replace the bearing.

Do you have any vibrations at 40-60 mph?

 

Not anything I consider to be an issue. I really want to blame the needle bearing but I’m kinda thinking along the lines of if there’s anything else in there I can get at to tighten things up.
