    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Lemme toss this one out, for the smart kids to ponder.

I know this isn't a Subaru forum... but I don't have a Subaru, so I don't post in Subaru forums.

My youngest kid has an 08 WRX. Just drove here, from Colorado, last week with no issues. He was on 99 today and pulled over because it seemed like he was losing power. Stopped, called me to see if I had any suggestions. No check engine light, no idiot light of any kind.

    Tried to start driving again.

Put it in first, let off the clutch, no movement... and engine did not stall out.

Put it in second, let off clutch, no movement... and engine did not stall out.

Put it in reverse, let off clutch, no movement... and engine did not stall out.

Acting as if it's not coming out of neutral. Anyone with more knowledge about manual (Subaru 5 speed) transmission than I have?... which is pretty much nothing.

No unusual smells? What if he rocks the car while it’s in gear? When he shifts car around, engine off, any resistance? Gearbox oil levels?

There was a slight smell of burning clutch when I got here to him. But I think it was him just attempting to get it going. Definately not the smell of a burned out clutch.

I can push it fairly easy with engine off in 5th with no foot on clutch.

Oil levels look good and clean.

Cancel that previous statement where I said I smelled a slight bit of burning clutch...

It's just the bums in the exit island between this off ramp and Highway 120 burning shit. I've smelled it a few times since I've been here, and Brennen's car hasn't even been running.

Interesting, its still possible it may not be fully disengaging on pedal release, leading to the lack of power and most of those symptoms described, eventually ending with the cooked clutch.

I find it hard to believe the gear box is done. I'd really have to go with the clutch.

For the clutch not to grab at all without warning is really strange.

Maybe the slave took a dump?

Maybe. But he stated he felt like he was losing power. If the gearbox took a dump, that would be sudden and probably catastrophic.

I agree. If the gearbox grenaded pushing it wouldn't be happening. A clutch going out can feel like power loss. It's not fully engaging so it's only using some of the available power.

yes definitely not the gearbox, you would feel that one immediately. The throw-out bearing & slave cylinder controlling clutch release was my guess because of the initial symptoms he had.

But it's an 08 and a WRX...so my guess was the clutch plate.

    ShouldagotaHondaCivicTypeR... ha ha ha.
