OEM Audio+ and JBL - Info & Pricing Released!

I actually like the head unit. It's slow but doesn't feel like some crap aftermarket thing. Similar to those universal car seat covers you can find at any auto parts store. I like being able to see the time, my current song playing, and a map of my location all on one screen. Most (I won't say all) don't allow that level of customization. Sure, the knobs on the 2020+ MY's are small, and navigating the settings are a pain in the ass, but in my opinion it's not as bad as others make it out to be.

Also, it's worth noting that I have the panoramic view monitor. That would severely limit my options on upgrades to my system.

 

So it's slow, navigation sucks, knobs suck, and the screen is small. Those were my complaints. I ended up getting every single feature I wanted on my pioneer and was able to improve on all of those points i just mentioned. Even Kenwood has a new one that is pretty impressive (alpine resolution leaves a lot to be desired). Then add amp(s), MrMarv custom box with sub, and front three and you are good to go. It isn't cheap, but if you are going to throw this much money at improving sound, why not do it properly? To each their own, but those of you on the fence and want top of the line sound...... Buy once cry once.

 

Is the OEMAudio+ system not a "proper"upgrade?

Also, as I mentioned previously, it will be difficult to find a head unit that works with my (and others) 360° camera system. Especially when it comes to driving in 4Lo.

 

"Proper" is relative. Some people know what sounds should sound like even in a horrible environment like a Tacoma. Other people like the stock sound and good on them, they don't have to shell out the extra money.


I can't stand the stock 360 camera look, i alternate between the cameras when needed on my pioneer. That said, I know others that got the kenwood DMX1057XR and they said panoramic worked great (obviously using a maestro). Give and take on both sides it seems. What is more important to you and what is your budget? Its a bummer to see people get excited about upgrading their audio with all these inflated reviews and hear enticing options like "easy install, keep your head unit too!" only to be let down when they get into a vehicle done right. I've said my piece ill slowly back away.

 

Have you listened to or owned one of the OEM Audio systems?

 

That's the problem, I've been looking at head units and the ones I'm narrowing it down to are between $700-$1200 + tax, Install gear $205 + tax, iDatalink Maestro $200 + tax. So looking at realistically spending $4500+ with the JBL upgrade package.

Yes i have heard them, two different vehicles, the most recent was this summer on my road trip to Cali to hang out with MrMarv.

What do you expect when you have a 1" softdome tweeter in the dash, 6x9 woofer in the front doors, and two ways in the rear? Rear speakers when done right can add to the stage or it can ruin it. The stage was bad and the rew readings, which i should have kept, were something that resembled an EKG while on a rollercoaster.
The one pleasant opinion i had was that oem audio sounded better than taco tunes. Taco tunes, a bunch of slimy weasels that should be avoided at all costs.

Best suggestion if you are dumping money into good car audio:
New head unit, plenty out there to choose from. The

dmh-wc6600nex is a nice unit with wireless carplay that looks factory in a 3rd gen
Plenty of two way options out there, i love Audio Frog gb15 and gb60 (gs60 for budget) are two fantastic options. you can even craft the sails to put the tweeter in them for 3ways
Find a used helix psix mk2 to run the 2way and sub, the dsp in it can't be touched for anything close to the price range.

Yes it does require work and money, or more money if you don't want to do the work. The end result can be magical.

Yeah, they're updating to the next tiers either by the end of the month or after 50 units at that tier has been sold. I'd rather they do the number of sold, but oh well.

 

Just curious - of those who have pre-ordered this system, does anyone have the intention to add dual 8" subs if that is an option or just the single in the OE location?

Also, any idea why they list the 2nd sub as an option, "if it is available"? I'd think that they already have the box and sub to put in the left-hand cubby and all they'd need to do was power it? Maybe it's a tuning thing?

EDIT: I decided to email OEM+ and ask them. It's 7:00PM here and I got a response from Daniel already! He basically said they achieved great bass with a single sub but asked the question on the pre-order page to see if this was something that customers really wanted. IF there is demand for it and they did offer it, the second sub would be placed in the driver side cubby.
