Does anyone know how to turn off the annoying door alarm/buzzer without disabling the buzzer (for other actually useful functions like lane change warning, indicators etc...) or the door sensor (so the alarm still functions when the truck is broken in to).

This is the first Toyota I have ever owned and I have never found anything in a vehicle more annoying than this warning alarm/buzzer.
This Tacoma has a smart key so I have no wish to be reminded of any thing but maybe I try to lock the vehicle and a door is still open or I try to lock the truck with the engine running, anything else I want the truck to stay as quiet as possible!!!!
I mean, I get out of the truck with it running to get something out of the back, I can hear the engine is running as it is not quiet but there goes the stupid alarm/buzzer....

If I hadn't purchased the truck specifically for a trip and been limited in time between taking delivery and the trip (had enough time to experience this alarm) I would have returned the truck to Toyota saying that I refuse delivery until they fix it.

I will also say that if I am unable to find a way to turn this thing off this will certainly be the first and last Toyota I ever buy.

Pushing one of the buttons on the door jamb (I forget which one) will make truck think you closed the door and the alarm will stop.

Welcome to TW. Wow, I think you may need a Snicker, lol! Did you not take it for a test drive before you bought it? All new vehicles have nanny features, Toyota's not the only one with annoying bells and buzzers.

First vehicle with a smart key too? This is pretty common stuff.

And not had the pleasure of our company as a fellow owner. Tsh and posh.

Better find a model w/o a smart key then.

Full disclosure. My poor man's 5 lug has a regular ole key. Which is what I wanted.

I also have a RAV with a smart key. Not what I wanted particularly, but it was a good buy on a well kept used vehicle, so I sucked it up.

Yeah, still not a smart key fan either. But I'm not abandoning ship because of it. Mostly because I've not found a better ship to go to yet. :D

It is annoying, but every vehicle is gonna have small nuances like this, don't sweat the small stuff.

Never look at my new one but on my 1st gen i found the switch on thefor jamb. Take of the rubber grommet. Should've a dime in the grommet. Reinstall the grommet. It just kept the switch pushed all the time. The dime light never worked again with the for though. Like i said i never actually looked at my new one. I find it way less annoying then the 1st greens were

The door buzzer cannot be stopped in any way without disabling the little beeper itself. Which makes you lose out on alot of "useful" noises. The beeping when you let the key fob get too far from the truck while its running, can be stopped I believe.

I have a 2019 F150 and it's whisper quiet compared to the bullshit chimes that Toyota felt was needed in my 2018 Tacoma. I ended up using a seatbelt extender which can be had for free at the parts counter because the start up chime is annoying as fuck. (I wear my seatbelt BTW) Apparently only the seatbelt chime can be turned off with one catch it won't chime while driving. There's no way to turn off the start up chime or adjust the volume down.

I don't know how this truck made it through testing, because it's the first thing I noticed. If you don't put that belt on right away you're getting noise. My F150 at least waits till i've been moving in drive for 30 seconds.

    Cliffs:

If you get the belt extender from Toyota the start up chime will be gone.

Don't waste a trip to the dealer thinking that turning off the seatbelt chime will get rid of the start up chime nonsense.

There is a federally mandated three-chime requirement. This cannot be disabled.

The 2018 model had a page in the manual which described the other chimes after quantity three, being disabled by the dealer.

Dealers are stupid and lazy and I fought with mine to get it disabled and finally said f*** it, and purchased a month pass to the software that allowed me to do it myself.

As promised I will never give them a five-star rating on service, because of the hard time they gave me.

If you undo the torx head bolt holding the door sensor in place I believe you can unplug the sensor and it defaults into thinking the door is always closed? I may have had to cut & splice the two wires together, I cannot remember. It does disable the alarm.

Only cons I've noticed is the map lights wont turn on with drivers side door being open, gotta trigger them manually.

Also the truck will re-lock itself if you push the unlock button and it does not "see" the drivers door open. Not a big deal if you unlock right before you enter vehicle.

I have a key, not push button start. That could be effected in other ways.

The 'Door Open' buzzer/alarm can be turned-off with the Toyota Techstream Software.
See this thread for links and instructions for Techstream:

False. The option is in TS, but does not actually do anything. **edit** in my experience with my 2018 AC*

Seriously? So if you have your truck in accessory mode with the stereo on and open the drivers do you don’t get constant bing-bonging?
Damn I’m so jelly. Did not know that changed with 2020s. Ive tried multiple times with my 2018 AC with no luck. Many others have tried on earlier 3rd gens with no luck either. Thanks for informing me. Enjoy your peaceful truck lol

    Yes.
I also turned-off the annoying seat belt warning/buzzer/bonger.
And, yes, I am very much enjoying my 'peaceful truck' now.
