I got the codes; P418, P2440, P2441,P2442. CEL and Trac lights on. No "Limp" or other symptoms for 6 months. Now it will not pull hill over 20 mph, Punch it and it will not shift.
Long Slow acceleration on flat road will see it shift and run over 60MPH. Will bog right down at any incline and it seems like the pedal is in cement. I have read the 36 pages of discussion about the reticence of Toyota to help on this non-warranty issue (6 years/72000miles). The discussions do not include a 2014 6 cyl SR5. I have just replaced air filter, plugs, cleaned MAF, cleaned throttle body, ran Sea Foam injector fluid. No joy.
I intend to call Toyota Customer Care and local dealer service manager and beg for "Goodwill Warranty..." Wish me luck and post any updated info on this problem.

    Do you live in California?
If not, you are probably out of luck on getting help.

You can try to clean, replace it, or delete it.
Of course, deleting it renders the truck useless for “On Highway Use” and must be used Off Road is only. :D

Mine was showing only the p2440 ad p2442 codes and would trigger limp mode.
With yours it's different. Extra codes exist. Maybe interaction ?
On mine just leaving the gas cap loose would trigger the check engine light and the 2 codes 2440 2442.

I got the p2440 and p2442 codes yesterday. Limp mode. Called a local service shop - approx $1,000 to fix. Took it to local Toyota dealership, they ran the vin, there was a recall on the air injection system causing the issue. It will be fixed in the morning at no charge.

You probably have a bad valve causing the system to go into limp mode. This was common on 2012s and up. Looks like Toyota is up to their usual BS with that garbage air injection system.

it seems to me that Toyota is taking a big hit on paying for all these repairs.
Many people just on this forum alone have had this work done and paid ZERO.
I know they make a boat load of millions per year and it may seem insignificant
to us but when you add thousands of these repairs up it has to sting the profit margin
a little anyways. And the Toyota recall for those tecatta air bags that blow metal in your face.

Yes, they are taking a hit but it's because of their faulty SAI design. It's not the consumer's fault or responsibility. This issue doesn't only involve Tacomas. Certain year Tundras have the same problem. Toyota charges a premium price for it's vehicles and they better make damn sure their product lives up to all the hype. Having owners shell out $1500 or so on a low mileage vehicle is damn near criminal. Toyota should make good for all years that have the SAI system.

Then does it make sense that they would repair with the same bad designed components again.
But thats what is happening. Hoping the new ones will out live the life of the warranty then
    it's our problem. AGAIN.
A better design plan would be to disable the system. it really serves no purpose. Except PITA

I wished I was home, I could send you all the SAIS parts from my truck that I removed. IF Toyota doesn't cover it, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND HPTuners and deleting the SAIS system...but remember, this is for an OFF-ROAD use ONLY vehicle. *wink wink*

HPTuners will also make the truck drive much better due to throttle mapping and transmission shift logic. Even on a stock truck like mine.

Is there a thread to read up on exactly what is involved with this tune? Do you need to take the truck somewhere to have the ECU flashed or do they email you a map that you then install yourself? I’d love to ditch the crappy sais system and I’m familiar with tuning motorcycles but what is involved/how does this tune work on the taco?

The only real problem I see doing this tuner mod is that it could or most likely render your
truck to ( refuse to repair due to modifications ) Many exhaust system company's that install
headers and dual exhaust make you sign a waver (saying you are aware these modifications are
illegal in the lower 48 states. ) Some are illegal in all 50 states.
Exhaust modifications that require the elimination of the cat convertors especially.
Some shops will refuse to fix exhaust systems that do not have convertors installed.
They can be fined heavily for doing so.
Even any dealership repairs could be refused due to the changes made.
In many cases however the mods would be hard to spot if you were not real familiar
with the tacoma setup. The above are just examples.

The HP tuners setup is comparable in cost to the diverter valve cost ( $500)
    From what I was reading.

I'm with you, they are just kicking the can down the road. Its a garbage system, mine failed at 29k and then again at 51k so far. Neither time they covered it and i repaired myself. They need to come out with an actual fix for this issue.

Why was the repair denied at just 29K and 51K when thats clearly in the warranty period ?

The third side to this coin is the inconsistent miles associated with when the failure occurs.
Some have said it did not happen until well over 100K and yours as soon as 29K and all
sorts in between that. It seems to me a lot fall in that right around 80K figure.
Is it possible the failure rate is determined by how humid the area you live in is ?
Maybe people that live in dry areas like Arizona might get more miles before this occurs.
And others in wet areas have it happen much sooner.
Could this be possible. Maybe the intake to the pump should be warm dry
air from around the exhaust manifold ( like the old heat risers)
instead of an area where water or steam could cause moisture to enter the system.

Maybe on to something here. Could it be possible to add a manual switch to trigger
the pump to run for the same 20 or 30 seconds at start up but switch on when we
get ready to shut down. drawing warm dry air through the system to act as a drying agent.

I believe 13-15 do run at shutdown.....12's don't...... I don't know if that will help because 13-15's are failing as well.....

I see, Well I wonder why the later models even with enhancements are failing too?
It could be that the design is so poor that nothing short of bypass surgery will help.
This really sucks, Because it's a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario.
I have put a lot of trust in Toyota for building long lasting trucks but this issue covering
10 model years and a number of different models is a real problem that is getting a
sweep under a dirty rug. I'm thinking strongly about saving to get another diverter valve
and pump for when mine fail to have that cost out of the way when it happens.
Unless I can figure out a device to remedy the issue before hand.

Just chiming in here but I had the same issue with my 2012 last October. After doing some research I decided on the Hewitt Tech bypass kit. The kit works great and fixed all the limo mode problems I was having by bypassing the SAIS system. Technically it’s an off road only kit and not legal for smog.

here’s a link to the kit I got and installed. Instillation is a little tricky with the block off plates but I wanted the truck without the SAIS and I didn’t know about removing the SAIS thread on here at the time...
