Just bought a 2021 TRD and want to install the pop n lock, new grill, and interior lights. Curious if any of these mods could potentially void the warranty?

    Short answer yes.

Long answer, The law states in order to void the warranty, the mods must be proven to have caused a fault. That said Toyota's lawyers are significantly more experienced in Toyota self a lot more money than you do.

Also warranty is supposed to apply to each part individually meaning installing the popping lock won't void your engines warranty in theory.

That's said I would still go ahead and install them anyway. You're not obligated to tell Toyota you modified the vehicle if you ever have to go through the warranty process. You can cross that bridge if you ever come to it.

I thought they came with locking tailgates already? No?

Warranty loss is only on the things you replaced.

Or something electrical that the new lights fubar. It happens.

You have to manually lock and unlock with a key.

If you have a hard cover, lock is useful deterrent. Soft cover, it's worthless if the thief has a butter knife.

I think car manufacturers void warranties more often because of the people themselves, rather than whatever they did (or didn’t do) to the vehicle. They know who they can manipulate and who won’t put up with their BS.

I have a close friend who bought a new Chevy Silverado 3 years ago with a 100K/10yr. factory powertrain warranty. The tranny shit the bed at 70K. They refused to fix it under warranty because he didn’t pay the overpriced Chevy dealership to do his regular scheduled maintenance (nothing but engine oil changes and fluid checks)... even though the tranny is a sealed unit and didn’t even require any maintenance. He did his own services and even had the receipts for the oil and filters. They bent him over because he is a very passive, non-confrontational kind of guy and they took advantage of him. He paid them over $4k to fix the tranny that was under warranty.

A 10/100 original factory warranty? Didn't know GM had such a thing.

The results sound more like a dealer provided 3rd party extended warranty that he purchased. The small print on those can have many loopholes.

Did you get to see/read the paperwork?

I know it was Chevy that denied it, so I guess that would mean it was a Chevy warranty and not a 3rd party. His truck is also a commercial vehicle for his business, so maybe the warranties are different than the regular warranties they offer (if like you say, a 100K/10yr isn’t a standard term/milage for Chevy).

Chevrolet corporate? Corporate won't even look at a 3rd party for you. And the reasons listed are not a requirement of a GM OE warranty.

Or the Chevy dealer? Dealer representing the 3rd party would be the denier if the T&C of the warranty were not met. Which is what you describe (servicing @ dealer) sounds like. It's another way the dealer lines their pockets, guaranteed service work. Or selling a pricey warranty easy to decline because in most cases folks make mistakes and invalidate the warranty. Win win win for the dealer so often that losses are negligible. Just like other insurances.

Maybe. But not that I'm aware of. But I've not bought a vehicle with a warranty since 2004, so I guess things could change.

There is an OEM Toyota kit for the tailgate lock. Many here including myself have installed them. They’re plug and play.

    Working on it ...
GM warrantees are nearly worthless. Had cat converter go bad on me. Had 6 year / 60,000 mile warranty on it. The cat went out 1 1/2 months past the period but 6,000 miles under warranty. GM just gave me the finger. I told them all wanted was the part and I would pay the labor. Still the middle finger. Fact is that converter was trash for a bit. I just got in late as I had some other service scheduled.
