I’m more curious why you’re cruising in the passing lane.

Not sure how the re calibration of the speedo works, you seem to know about this more than me. But the dealer should have mentioned something regarding the incorrect speed reading?

    Just curious, whats your setup?

Yeah, you're actually holding third lol. You'd be going about 130 mph at 5000 rpm in 4th. Truck is performing normally. It is not realistic to expect this truck to hold an overdrive with that lift and tires at damn near 90 mph.

That's a ton of wind resistance. Gotta slow down is the big take away here.

I would go with the OVTune. You can change the tunings so the transmission doesnt jump around. In your case it should function as expected.

At this point everyone who buys a Tacoma needs to get the tune.

Im disheartened by the 3rd gen. I want one so bad but I cannot justify the price with how many problems people are having and at what relatively low mileage. Toyota dropped the ball hard.

    im not taking sides here

cant tell if U bought new / used or if ANY mods have been made on truck ..............

dealers DONT Like standing behind Modded vehicles

some will give some grace if they think Ur bumper hitch doesnt effect an engine function

yet when a loose fuel cap will throw a Chek Engine Lite

there are some that are taboo

there might be a quad speed control speed + rpm + gear that wont let the truck to go faster

    Don't have to.
Join vf threads where this phenomenon is being discussed. I can get you tons of logs to map stock AT ecu rmps to the speed, shift points, torque converter locking points, etc.

I run uncorrected, the only thing I know to correct Speedo is to run an inline module behind the dash (Hypertech) that will adjust the incoming speed signal to the gauge. I dont want to tear the dash apart again so I just left it.

I think it would be accurate enough to pick up a 10% speed difference, if not there are plenty of cheap hand held GPS units also available to try.

Regardless, the OP would need to prove his complaint valid to get it fixed on the dealership's dime.

Wow! Calling someone out for speeding is petty as hell. Maybe you should call the FBI and alert them to this post. I'm sure they would think it's serious enough to take action.

It's simple to check, have the OP throw it into S3 and go do 80 mph, report back what the rpms are. Keep in mind 80 on his speedo is almost 90 actual.

    Lets use Math.

    Gears: 3.9
    Tire: 34
    Trans: 1.49 (3rd gear)
    Speed: 83 (alleged)

    This equals 4766rpm

BUT WAIT OP is cruising around 5300rpms

His tires can't be changes, his trans gears cant go lower without rpm spike and axle ratios cant change so lets look at option 2:

    Gears: 3.9
    Tires: 34
    Trans: 1.49 (3rd)
    Speed: 90mph

This equates to 5200rpm, right where the OP is.

    Math doesnt lie

Not at all, petty would be taking a copy and sending it to the local magistrate to issue an arrest warrant, which they absolutely would.

How long was your test drive? Did you take it on any of your regular routes? above 60?

This is a classic case of Buyer Beware - and doing research before making a larger purchase [especially when that item has been modified].
Not the first time I've heard this kind of story with a dealer modified vehicle -- or modified anything -- and no research done prior to purchase.
All of a sudden there's a [probably expensive] problem that no one wants to fix and the deal is long done. The seller is laughing.

I wish the OP luck, but do not sympathize in this situation. He may as well have bought 'AS-IS'.

Hopefully this thread will serve as a future resource for someone else prior to purchasing a 'modified' truck from a dealer [or anyone really though].
    RESEARCH, RESEARCH, then RESEARCH again.

I did do my research on the truck I did find a lot of people having gear hunting problems, but were to be solved with flash update that the 2020 has, I also did a lot of research of people running same size tire and wheel set up and not having a issue of it holding 5300 rpms for 5 mins at a time, no I didn’t take for a 20 miles test drive down the highway, as this tends to only start about 20 mins into my trip down the highway

The issue I see in this whole post is, the OP is expecting normal behavior out of a dealer modified truck. Now that he has driven said truck for an extended period he is unhappy. There is no vehicle made that will perform like a stock vehicle afterlfting and installing larger tires. Cause and effect are in play here. More rolling mass and pulls power and torque. More vehicle height equals more drag which takes more power and torque. I see two options. Live with your choice or return truck at your loss.
