This is the only problem I have I just don’t see how it’s acceptable to drive at 5300 rpms for long extended periods of time

If you want to run those mods and ever see 6th gear again, you'll need a regear.

    or drive slower

I know you are defensive OP but you really need to heed what we are saying. You can't expect the truck to turn 34" tires at 90mph unless you are in 3rd gear.

You have two options, slow down and/or regear.

Not to get into the weeds, but you did not answer either question. You clearly stated that it was "completely obvious that his engine/truck is defective", your quote, not a reference to a dealer. Again please tell me specifically what is defective. Second, you clearly stated that, "Toyota should be honoring their customers by fixing what’s broken". Please tell me exactly what is broken. Again, be specific. The OP had a chance to thoroughly inspect and test drive the vehicle before he bought the truck. That he did not chose to exercise that opportunity is not the dealers fault. The dealer may have done more to accommodate his complaints, but my point is that, it is not clear at all that there is anything mechanically wrong with the vehicle, but it is clear that the expectations of the OP were not met. Big difference, especially if it ends up in court.

Yeah that's a given. I have 6 MT, not sure if that truck could hold 6th at 70 mph. It'd be about 2100 RPM.

Yup, certainly sounds like you did your research before buying.

There’s a wealth of info in this thread that has been written before, had you [actually] done your research, you would have known more about the truck and what the dealer threw at it than the dealers people themselves. You could have grilled them on the mods and the after effects BEFORE buying and walked away if you didn’t like their answers.

Expensive lesson either way. Best of luck OP.

It would be kind of funny if someone went and did that. The actual process is for real though, I've gone through local magistrates before, that part wasn't a joke.

It is not. This is a modified truck not a sports car. If you bought a corvette and the dealer put a brake controller and a hitch on it, would you expect it to pull your 30 ft toy hauler and and tacoma without any adverse effect on speed and fuel economy? I think not.

You are not listening to good advice and explanations. You keep saying... acceptable blah blah 5300 blag blah.
Nobody held a gun to your head to buy that truck but you did. You have two choices...
Remo ccx e the weight and mods (then corporate will talk to you) or regear.

What is really strange to me is the fact that Mike Squeers just removed the transmission aftercooler from the new 3rd gen trucks with a tow package because the cooler was creating too much drag and it was heavy making the truck less fuel efficient .
Then the dealership where the OP purchased his truck counteracts the missing cooler by adding a bunch of aftermarket parts on the outside of the truck ????

This thread is still going ?
I had the problem fixed and solved back in post # 6.......... Golly

Drove a 50 mile RT from our house to Delta, CO this morning. Used CC on the way down set to 70 mph, and carefully paid attention to the tranny shifts. Results: Pretty much hunting between 5 and 6 unless downhill, when it would stay in 6th. On steeper hills, downshift to 4th multiple times (3500 RPM), and even to 3rd twice (4500 RPM) on 2 really steep hills. Just used the right foot for the hilly sections on the way home and avoided 3rd gear and even 4th for the most part, while maintaining 70 mph. Still lots of hunting between 5th and 6th.

This was in a stock, new 2021 TRD Pro. If the OP was seeing 5300 RPM, there's really something wonky going on there. Just my opinion, FWIW.

Waze and now Google maps use GPS for speed, and cellular for assisted location information when GPS signal is not available. It’s more accurate when GPS signal is available than your speedometer which manufacturers generally set to read a little higher than your actual speed. My Tacoma indicates about 2 mph higher than actual speed compared to Waze and as validated by a radar speed display on the drive to where I used to work.

Yea, but we can calculate that OP was actually doing 90+ mph. Thats nearly 30% faster than you were doing.

For the record OP, I am a documented third gen drivetrain hater and agree that a modern truck ought to be able to run 90 without turning 5300 rpm, even on 34s.

I’m just saying the third gen taco with stock tune can’t do it. It sucks to find out after purchase, hope you are able to end up in something that works for you without too big a financial loss.

I'm sure it's not to most, and not to the folks at Toyota,,,, that's why they did not make the truck like that to begin with. The dealer hacked this up- your beef is with you (buyer beware) and the individual dealer, if you can prove they mislead you. Of course if you test drove it,,, that'll be really difficult.
