    Just search for Organ Mountains, New Mexico. It's a national monument.
    We went over there to rock climb, and found climbing route information on mtnproject.

    White Sands National Park is close by and super cool too.

    Surrounding both those parks is a missile base where you're totally not allowed to go and its all grayed out on google maps with no information. So that limits your options on where to go.

    I can't tell which side of the lake you are on but back in HS my buddies and I would hit some 4wheel trails on the Granite Bay side of the lake. Wonder if those trails are still there or if that land has all been developed by now.
