What lift setup should I consider?

Right. I used stock UCAs with mine too. Forgot that... been so many months ago. Like pre-covid!

After talking with wheelers, headstrong, toytec, many of you and now shock surplus I have made the decision to go with 6112 up front and 5100 in the rear. In order to gain an extra 2", I was advised to go with the #6 clip on the driver side and the #5 clip on the passenger side to fix the taco lean. I used billies on my 1st gen as well but my question to everyone is what are you doing for rear lift?

I have come across the following options:

    -Wheelers 3 leaf AAL
-Icon AAL w/ overload left in (this looks the most appealing)
    -1" block

I would like the "most level" I can get and if anything i would rather have the front lower than the rear giving it that aggressive look rather than James Bonds wife always sitting back there.

I have the Icon 3 leaf AAL (basically the same thing as the wheeler's one) w/out overload or a block in.

Can't advise on the clip settings for billies as I'm running fox, but it's usually easier to adjust the front coilover's as opposed to removing/adding leafs or other things in the back.

It sounds like 5100’s give a shit ride off road. I’ve also heard many folks with 3rd gens need the ECGS bushing.

consider old man emu over 5100’s
Or fox if u can afford it.

I'd just fork over a bit more $ for 5160 tbh. Remote reservoirs are pretty nice to have

I did that exact lift on my 1st gen and it was stiff as hell on the highways/ streets but off roading was great! I will definitely need to do the ECGS bushing. They recommend with any lift. The advantage with using the adjustable system vs. coils apparently is a softer ride as the coils will give a firmer ride to provide lift. I was told different when installing on the 1st gen so who knows

You remove the overload leaf for better articulation. It’s recommended by the manufacturer too. I’d highly recommend spending the extra few dollars for the wheelers bump stop kit to complete your package. I just did it to mine and I wish I had done it sooner.

Are you talking about this? I don't plan on doing any jumping lol. Is this an actual concern? This is the first I have heard of this. Im sure you are referring to something else.

Those are exactly what I’m talking about. I don’t jump my truck, it’s for smoothing out the rough hits you’ll get even on normal paved roads.

I will take this into consideration! $140 seems a lot for some plastic lol but it makes sense. Especially here in Colorado our dirt roads are smoother than our highways and streets.

Here's the thing. when it comes to suspension, and tires, to get what you pay for. budget is everything when it comes to suspension. If you're looking to go big, stick with a king, high fox, and high icon. all three of those are going to be pretty much the same, as the differences are extremely minimal. If you have a lower budget then you should without a doubt go with the bilstein 5100s. their a great bang for your buck kinda shock, and from what i've heard and seen they ride good. also please buy aftermarket upper control arms! articulation, and making those wheels and tires fit are very important. I would suggest you go with Camburg. I run their Tubular uniball upper control arm and it has been three months and I havent had to lube it up, and it doesn't squeak at all. Avoid rough country because they are just a low quality shock and for the money it's better to go with a bilstein 5100. If You aren't going and mobbin through the desert, and you're fine with it being a little rough on the normal streets then i wouldn't even go with those higher priced shocks/ coilovers.just keep it simple and go with a cheaper setup. No matter what you buy will be better than stock. Now let's talk about leaf springs. I tend to see lots of people who spend 4k+ on their shocks and coilovers but end up just doing and adding a leaf for the springs. DON'T DO THAT. It's practically a spacer. go with a new leaf pack, they're going to range around 700-1100 dollars but it's worth it. I have the Deaver U-402-1 and I love them. There is a fantastic leaf spring with tons of droop! I'd stick with deaver. And similarly to how i said for the shocks. If ride quality and our performance is not a priority then you're fine with going with an add a leaf. But if you're spending big money on shocks, don't ruin the quality by adding a leaf in the rear. And that's pretty much it. Overall stick with the main brands. and in my opinion, Suspension, rims and tires are things you should not cheap out on. make sure you lift your truck correctly. Running stock upper arms can be bad news. They can break, they can bend, and they are going to limit you as far as performance goes. Budget is important. You should definitely take that into consideration along with how you treat your vehicle. Don't cheap out on the things you need to get you home. but that's pretty much it. If you have any questions about absolutely anything shoot me a reply. And Congrats on the new truck, and have fun with your new suspension. and remember what i said earlier. no matter what you end up doing, it's better than stock. Have fun!

Wow this is a lot of information! Thank you for that. I will consider the whole pack vs. the AAL. As far as UCAs my tires are 265/75/16 and they already fit. I would just have to worry about when I get the lift. I will look into those as well depending on how the alignment comes out.

I have the 6112/5160's, wheeler 3leaf add a leaf, stock UCA's, and stock driver side needle bearing. I put the 6112's on the 4th and 5th notch and added 1/4" spacers on both sides with Wheeler 650# springs for my front bumper and sliders etc. I wasn't sure how high the front would sit so I used the spacers for adjustability since I had Wheelers assemble the coil overs. I like the ride. I had the 5100's on OME 887's and the 6112/5150 set up is an upgrade on the highway. In the desert over the rocky terrain the 6112's are twice as good as the 5100's in the front. In the rear you could run 5100's vs 5160's and probably not notice a major difference at lower speeds. The 5160's have about an inch more travel stay cooler to prevent fade on long runs, that is what I read anyways. I really like the way they look too. Did I mention that I really am enjoying this truck?
