2020 Tacoma stalled

I have a 2020 SR5 Tacoma. On Christmas Eve I was backing up a drive way and as soon as I threw it in reverse the truck stalled, check engine light came one, low oil pressure, and one other warning came one. I was slightly rolling, but no faster than normal. It took a couple tries of turning the key to get it to start. I went to the dealer and they said they couldn’t pull any codes. Truck has been running fine since. Could this be related to the fuel pump recall? The dealer offered me a 2021 rental Tacoma till they have a fix in mid March. I am hesitant to leave my truck at the dealer and to let it sit for the next 2.5 months and that’s assume the fix date doesn’t get pushed out. Any thoughts if is this was just a freak issue or if it’s related to the fuel pump?

 

It could be the fuel pump. It would be best to go get it fixed now since there is an open recall on it. I’m planning on having mine replaced here in the spring or summer when I have the time to take it down to the dealership. I’ve already spoken with a tech and they usually replace it in under 1-2 hours if the fuel pump is working efficiently. It would take much longer to replace if you’re fuel pump is experiencing issues because obviously one fault will lead to another so everything would have to be tested/worked on so it doesn’t happen again.

 

When you mention rental are you saying they would rent you a new Tacoma or give it you as a loaner. No way I'd rent one. Then I'd have to consider the area where it would be kept for 2.5 months if a loaner.

 

They would give me a loaner free of charge.

 

They don’t have a fix for the 2020s yet. It won’t be available till mid March.

 

Took an hour for them to swap mine out. Why get a rental?

 

If the area of the dealer is in a location that's not crime infested, and perhaps even fenced in then sure I'd take that loaner. But also note any if any dings bumps or bruises my own vehicle had, along with miles when I dropped it off. Your Tacoma likely be the first one to get the repair too possibly.

 

When you say "backing up a driveway", was it kind of a hill?

My truck has stalled a few times going up my driveway if I let it roll backwards while still in drive.

 

I have not heard of the fuel pump issue or recall, wonder why I have not been notified?

 

My 2020 does not show it's under a recall.......yet anyway.

 

Let the clutch out easy! Or at least that's what my dad used to tell me in our cj5.

 

If it were me I'd take the loaner. That puts pressure on the Dealer to get your truck fixed quickly so they can get their loaner back. If you do it that way my guess is that you'll have your repaired truck back a lot quicker.

 

It was in Jersey so the driveway was flat. It is also an automatic.

 

I'd hang on to it, and see if there's a recall or more issues. There's many Tacoma's on the road, with no issues that have been waiting on a fuel pump.

 

No way I would leave my truck sit at a dealer for months.
