Anyone know the correct position of the wires every time I touch the battery with the cables it sparks so there’s something wrong and can’t figure out what it is.

You might want to grab a meter and check those terminals open/close as you expect.
Do you have a test light? might want to play with something smaller than the battery until you know how this works..
