JBL Audio Plus and Bluetooth or USB Music Search

Just recently traded my 2019 Tacoma for a 2021 Tacoma. The worst part of this swap has been the factory head unit.

Is there a way to search for music on the head unit while the vehicle is in motion?

I typically use a iPad for all of my music. I've tried connecting with bluetooth and through USB and the interface to search for music absolutely blows. It seems the only way to do a search for music on bluetooth is to come to a complete stop or just access the iPad directly. Using a USB cable is only marginally better at most.

Am I missing something? Is there a setting I can change in the head unit?

I have this same head unit in my wife's 2020 RAV4 and it has possibly the worst interface of any stereo I have ever owned.

 

They put all their eggs in the Apple CarPlay basket. Since the iPad doesn’t support CarPlay, you get screwed over with functionality

 

I've thought about jailbreaking the iPad but don't want to take the chance of breaking it.
