They probably did for fear of it falling off because it hangs straight down (which is actually great for priming it).

I mean use your head OP, you ain’t reusing that I hope so just stab a screwdriver in and twist it off. New one goes on hand tight- assuming you have reasonable average arm strength

Thanks, but I would disagree. Just because you installed something hand-tight is never any guarantee that it will come off by hand (I wish it was that easy) ... Engines/filters get hot-cold-hot-cold-hot-cold and different metals/parts expand/contract at different rates and sometimes can be a PITA to remove.
But I'm sure you're right (Past experience) about the oil/filter monkey's (Along with the tire-rotation monkey's) making life much more difficult somewhere down the line. This is what I'm trying to avoid.

    Yes & yes.

It really is.........after laying down on the ground with a 12mm socket removing the middle splash pan, then lay down under the filter and position the 'ol style adjustable filter wrench where you can break it loose enough to turn by hand after you put a pan underneath it and let it dribble out it's little dab of oil that'll come out after loosening half way. When it stops dripping unscrew the filter by hand and dump the oil out of filter into pan sitting there. Once you get some finesse there won't even be any to wipe off the side of the block or edge of oil pan. Fill the new filter up to preload it so motor doesn't have to when you start it up and spin it back on and wipe off any drips. Then all you gotta do is get a 14mm on the pan drain plug, bust it loose and let it drain into the pan. Put the plug back in and tighten it up and fill it back up with 5 qts. The filter holds almost 1/2 qt if you let it soak in. This will put you right on full mark. Dealership can shove their "free" maintenance crap. You'll waste a lot more time and angst on that BS than it's worth. Get an oil pan with a spout on it and you dump the old oil right back into the 5qt jug that you just emptied and take it to auto parts to dump when convenient. Become your own maintenance monkey and not have to wonder if it was done right.

LOL!!! Dude, I've been doing oil/filter changes for 50+ years now. I've pretty much done it all. Even the stabbing a screwdriver though the filter body (With a hammer) to get it off. (Only once though) ...
There's not a whole lot of back-yard tricks I haven't done or at least know about. I just ... Since I plan on having this rig till I fall over dead.. I just want to make life as easy as possible for myself. Correct tools helps accomplish that.
Hey, no harm, no foul ..

Believe it or not this old school tech tool has room to get on Toyota's old school filter and break it loose. I use this type every time I change oil in my truck. It won't work on the 2018 RAV4 SE canister so I have a round cup one that goes on a ratchet for that.

I'll take yer word for it. I've yet to crawl underneath my truck (It's zero degrees and constant snow here.. LOL!) and I've just watched YouTube video's on 'Filter Change'.. Some are 'Hey! Easy-Peezy!!' and others are 'Pay someone else to do it..' ...I was just wondering what I was gonna get myself into and thought 'Correct Tool' makes life sooooo much more easy.
I've been doing my own Maint now for ... Shit, 1972, so I pretty much know the ropes..
Thank You for the input though!

same here, always done my own stuff....well, back then in late 60s was parents cars. no youtube or internet and encyclopedias didn't help. snow would make it suck. A dry garage in TX is the eezy peezy part. think i'd have to go find a parking garage to change it in.

If you never sell you don't need to worry about depreciation.
If you never sell you don't need to worry about regret.

Oh boy. I've had mine since 2008 and almost have 100k in the seat.

It looks very rough around the edges, but still makes me smile.

Sweet! The last new-real bike I had was an 87' Yamaha Radian. It was only 600cc, but would smoke any mid-80's Vette' at the time. (I know that's not saying much, but...) .. I would have bought bigger, but ... Maybe some of you might remember ... At the time there was a HUGE 'import'? tax on Japanese bike's over 600cc's as Harley was screaming about how the imports were killing their business.
The difference between a 600 cc anything and a 750+ cc anything was about $2-3K ... A LOT of $$ at the time.
I stopped riding (Or a pause) in 89' when I started having kids. It was one thing for me to wrap myself around a phone pole when nobody was counting on me being alive, but when wife/babies were counting on me 'being there' ... It's another story.
I was gonna start riding again when I moved to The Middle Of Nowhere .. But after seeing a couple of 'Bike vs. Deer/Moose' ... Which are around any corner here at any time... I just decided that riding dirt bikes up old forest service and logging roads was gonna have to do.

LOL!! (Hey kids! Imagine this!) ... There were many times I had to go to the local public library ... Hoping they had the correct Chilton's book (Usually 4" thick) ... And making copies of 4-5 pages on the Xerox machine.
And then trying to fight off a couple of pterodactyls getting to the drive-in to have some Bronto-ribs that made my car fall over on the side.. :D

The factory filter on my 2020 2.7 was 73-14. The YZZD1 and YZZD3 filters are also 73-14. I found it pretty easy to get the factory filter off using the 73-14 cap-type filter wrench. The YZZD3 which is slightly longer fit perfectly on my 2020 2.7 by the way.

Just to note, the YZZG2 (made by purolator) filter which is sometimes sold at dealers is 74-14.

The 2.7 oil filter location hasnt changed since the first ones rolled out in 1995. Ive tried all the tools, and this type plus a long extension is by far the best in my opinion.
    Screenshot_20210107-151352.jpg

The cup style wrenches just slip off and cause me to cuss a lot, and there isnt a whole lot of room for the strap wrench or channel lock style.

I actually bought one of those at AutoZombie the other day.. I think it was $9-10.00 ... (A shakey MIC thing..) ... I thought that if it didn't work for the one thing I want it to work for ... I might need it for something else in the future. So ... You can never have too many tools and all that, right? LOL!
The thing that was 'WTF' for me was that ... The Toyota filter is your typical 14-flute filter ... But all the ones at 3 different stores were either just slightly too big, or slightly too small ... And I kept thinking that, 'C'mon now ... A cup-style filter wrench shouldn't be THAT hard to find/get...'
A regular strap-wrench wouldn't be bad, but for some reason Toyota had to put some weird/big flange on the housing where the oil filter screws in. IDK what the purpose for that is, other than it makes things just that much more difficult.

Agreed but just used what I had, there is room to get my band type on there and get it loose. Always only hand tight my filters.....except the cartridge one on RAV4.
